Mapframe
[edit]Your use of mapframe is creative, but there is a template for SSSIs, {{Infobox SSSI}} that you should be using. Take a look at how it is used on articles in Category:Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Devon. Thanks, Abductive (reasoning) 05:40, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi dear,
Thank you for your unequivocal good contributions to Wikipedia. When writing short descriptions, please read the rule at WP:SD40; you could be using "UK protected area". Cheers. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 07:32, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 07:46, 12 October 2024 (UTC)Coordinates
[edit]Please make sure your articles follow MOS:COORDS and WP:OPCOORD. I have corrected a number of your stubs, and the expectation is that new users look at the history of their stubs after a couple of days, and modify their editing going forward. For example, your stub Wet Sleddale Meadows had an unreadable layout of the infobox, no categories, and overly precise coordinates. Abductive (reasoning) 08:45, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Continued creation of stubs without categories
[edit]Since I last left the message above, you have created 11 more stubs without any categories. Categories are not optional. Going forward, please add at least one category when you make a stub. Abductive (reasoning) 09:18, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message. I will add categories to these stubs. Aizoaceae2 (talk) 19:32, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
Unreadable infoboxes
[edit]For the benefit of editors who have vision problems, please lay out the infoboxes of the stubs you create vertically. I have again corrected a stub of yours. Abductive (reasoning) 09:50, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't know how to do this. I have been creating the Infobox using the template provided. Aizoaceae2 (talk) 19:46, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Template:Infobox Site of Special Scientific Interest shows it vertically. Abductive (reasoning) 12:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- I had to clean up Great Wood's infobox and make other WP:MOS corrections. Please take a look and try to follow the WP:Manual of Style. Abductive (reasoning) 03:55, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Template:Infobox Site of Special Scientific Interest shows it vertically. Abductive (reasoning) 12:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- These stubs about SSSIs are being created using the Visual Editor. The entire point of this tool is to enable editors to contribute without understanding or using wikitext. If Abductive doesn't like the way that the Visual Editor codes an infobox, they should take it up with its developers.
- And, in any case, no matter how one creates an article, there is no requirement to format the wikitext in a particular way. What matters is the format of the article, as seen by its readers. Andrewđ(talk) 10:51, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- This user also creates stubs with no categories. And other things that affect readers. Look into it. Abductive (reasoning) 03:34, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Their most recent stub, Milkingstead Wood, was created with a couple of categories. But I doubt that most readers look at these or are aware that they exist.
- I was curious how such categories are created or added using the visual editor. I found the option buried in a menu and tried it to add a geographical category. That interface proved to be quite limited as it requires you to know the name of the category and these are often not obvious. In this case, what I was looking for turned out to be Forests and woodlands of Cumbria but I had to make an external search to find that. A new editor isn't going to know how to do that. So, Aizoaceae2 is doing quite well to create any categories at all. Andrewđ(talk) 18:53, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

I'm quite enjoying your series of SSSI stubs, thanks. They may inspire further work and, FYI, I've made a start on Rogue Herries. Andrewđ(talk) 19:22, 28 December 2024 (UTC) |
- Thanks for your welcome. Much appreciated. I'm keen to make information on UK protected areas more easily available. Thanks too for links to these help pages. The manual of style is very useful. So far I have only used the visual editor as I do not yet understand the underlying code. I have had issues with producing Infoboxes, which is a shame as I am keen to add coordinates to the pages I write. I also can't add Short Descriptions using the visual editor. Hopefully if I can produce Stubs with substantial content, these details can be added by other people. Best wishes Aizoaceae2 (talk) 21:21, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
FYI, there's a standard welcome for new editors but it seems that no-one has given you this yet. It contains a variety of tips which may help now you've gotten started. Andrewđ(talk) 19:28, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you started
[edit]Hi Aizoaceae2. Thank you for your work on Miterdale Head Wood. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
Thanks for creating this new page. I'd wondered about includinh this within the National park, but that it such a broad (and long) article that I think that a stand-alone page is warranted.
