Hi! You may be interested in the "adoption" program where an experienced editor helps you learn the ropes. The teahouse is a great spot to ask questions about things. You can also make drafts of new articles and/or changes to articles you'd like to make in your userspace, at a place like User:Airplane Maniac/sandbox, and then ask for help in looking it over and providing suggestions. Lakeside Press

Thanks for patrolling Lakeside Press, and especially for doing it so quickly! But I don't see where more notes should (or could) be added, since every paragraph has at least one note which covers all the statements in it, many paragraphs have multiple notes, sometimes for just a clause. RV-7

No CoLocate, sorry to disappoint but I just put that there because I wanted to express a wish of mine, and not show my location at the same time. I sadly do not own a RV-7 and I am too young to fly one... I just hope that someday I will; the RV-7 is the plane I want when I have the money, age, and time to become a pilot. Overtagging

Hi Airplane Maniac. Thanks for your help with new page patrol. Wikipedia really needs dedicated editors like yourself to help improve the quality of our content. I wanted to let you know that I think you may be adding cleanup tags to new articles a little too liberally. For example, on Jim Sinclair (comic book artist) you added six tags, some of which are duplicative (layout and sections). On Yamaha XJ750X Maxim-X you also added six cleanup tags. Some, such as dead end and uncategorized are trivial concerns for an article that was added only seven minutes prior.

As a rule of thumb, I recommend adding no more than 2-3 cleanup tags for any article, except in rare cases. This tends to be the most helpful approach in my experience. If you're up for some extra reading, here are some essays that discuss overtagging in more detail: WP:OVERTAGGING, Wikipedia:Responsible tagging, and WP:TAGBOMB. Apologies for the slow response, I've been busing. Vandals are one of the major issues in Wikipedia as anyone can edit it, people can disrupt it for their own personal gain or amusement. Vandalism is defined as a "deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia." Of course, vandalism should be reverted as soon as possible and there are many ways to do this. The most basic tool is Twinkle which allows you to swiftly warn and report users, nominate pages for deletion, tag pages, and request the protection among many other things. You will want to enable it in the gadgets section of Special:Preferences.

When you have discovered a vandal you will want to revert their edits and leave a warning on their talk page. What warning you leave can depend on the severity of the vandalism. If you think the user is acting in good faith, a general note vandalism warning is appropriate. If they continue this behavior you can give them a caution warning which makes no assumption of faith. Warning and final warning are reserved for when an editor refuses to stop their previous behavior and sends a strong "cease and desist" message to them. In severe cases of vandalism (such as inserting personal attacks or expletives into articles) you may want to start off with higher level warnings. When it becomes clear that a user will not stop their behavior you should report them to WP:AIV. You can use the Twinkle menu and select "ARV" which will allow you to report users to various notice boards.

Some other warnings that are used often are the single issue notice {{uw-coi}}, for when you believe the user may have a conflict of interest, and the single issue warning {{uw-3rr}}, for edit warring editors. Hope this explains the basics, when you become more experienced there are semi-auto tools such as WP:HUGGLE and WP:STIKI which are very powerful anti vandal tools. Speedy Deletion

Hi Airplane Maniac. I notice that you tagged 1983 Todd Shipyard Strike (Pacific Coast Metal Trades Union Strike) for deletion; i agree that it has some problems, but i don't believe that it is actually ready for speedy deletion, so i removed the tag. I thought you might like to know why. I assume you have read SPEEDY, so you recognise the criteria. The one you used (A7) is for an article which makes no claim of significance or notability (if you read A7 you'll see it says "If the claim is credible, the A7 tag can not be applied"). This article made a fairly clear claim of significance, in that the event affected thousands of people, the company, and future events. I hope this explanation makes mine action clear for you. Just stepping in here, over applying A7 is a very common mistake. Articles that don't fit under A7s very narrow requirements can be put up for PROD or AfD. In this case, the article will probably be kept (despite the atrocious state the article is in) because it appears to be a notable event. Winner 42 Talk to me! 02:22, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi again. Not trying to pick, but i do urge you to be careful ~ as Winner 42 says, A7 is frequently misapplied (i have done it myself, i expect) ~ as you patrol. I notice that at least one other article you SPEEDY'd recently has been rapidly declined. It's just a matter of refining your judgement, eh?

Also, which is odd, you notified a user of a SPEEDY you didn't make. If SwagMasterParakeet91 is a new, potentially useful, editor, they are quite likely to be confused, at least, by this. Dear Airplane Maniac, It's hard to tell you my bad news. I am heartbroken, but I am leaving Wikipedia. It was good to know you my Wikipedia brother, and I am glad we got to edit together. However, policies are bad, the ArbCom is horrible and supporting administrators who abuse their powers, and good users are getting blocked and bad users are getting rewarded. Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement

Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!

Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).

If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:

• Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
• Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
• Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
• Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
• Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection

Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.

We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)
