Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, ISA99-Chairs, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Thank you for the excellent guidance. I am new to the Wikipedia editing world, and appreciate this assistance.
In this case my only interest is to see that coverage of the 62443 standards and the work of the committees creating them (ISA99 and IEC TC65 WG10) is up to date an accurate. I am a current co-chair of ISA99, but this is purely a volunteer position, with no commercial or special interest. I have been a member of that committee since its inception in 2002 and am thoroughly familiar with its history, accomplishments and current activities. ISA99-Chairs (talk) 19:01, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ISA99-Chairs: As I noted below, Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines are very different from the way conflicts of interest are thought about in academic/commercial settings. The fact that you are a co-chair means that you have a conflict of interest with regard to ISA99 and the standards it creates, as well as the parent SDO. voorts (talk/contributions) 19:41, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this a very different interpretation of conflict of interest than what I am familiar with. As I said, my interest is in accuracy and reflecting the work done by literally hundreds of volunteers in developing these standards. Can this be addressed by having any of my edits reviewed by an editor before being published? ISA99-Chairs (talk) 20:17, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, absolutely. You can use the Template:Edit COI on the talk page of any article that you'd like an edit to be made to. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:24, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, ISA99-Chairs, does not comply with Wikipedia's username policy. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy, which is summarized here.
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Thank you. voorts (talk/contributions) 17:08, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Per Wikipedia's username policy, an account may only be used by a single person. If you would like to edit about this topic, you will each need to create an individual account. Additionally, as has been noted above, you should not make edits directly to pages about which you have a conflict of interest (note that Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy is different from academic conflict of interest policies, and that writing about your research or work is a conflict of interest on Wikipedia). Instead, you should use the conflict of interest edit request template. Best, voorts (talk/contributions) 17:12, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This account is only used by a single person (Me). I have requested a rename to "acssec99" ISA99-Chairs (talk) 20:18, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have unblocked your account now that it has been renamed. Spicy (talk) 01:53, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding this account and Wikipedia guidelines. I have seen professional editing handled very delicately in the past, so I have asked for confirmation/input from admin. This is not an accusation the account is in the wrong, simply ensuring everything is up to par. The thread is ISA99_Committee. Thank you. Tule-hog (talk) 17:13, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that this discussion has already been closed. voorts (talk/contributions) 17:15, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
