Image copyright problem with Image:Chad_Allen_head_shot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Chad_Allen_head_shot.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 09:27, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

- I'm totally lost with all this copyright stuff. And if the bio I wrote isn't something that is allowed to be posted, can you please point me in the right direction, so that I can learn how to write one that is suitable for this page? I really did read a few other bios and thought mine was OK to post here. Thanks for any help you can give me.
- What image and article are you referring to? --Carnildo 07:48, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- Actor Robert Gant. I wrote his bio and it was deleted and I have no idea why? And I don't know what I'm doing wrong as far as trying to post his photo? The head shot I'm trying to post is one that is used by various media people when they do articles or interviews with him. I guess you can say that it's a publicity shot. I'm not sure what to pick in the drop down menu for the Licensing part? And I also need to know what to post in the tags, etc., line? I'm really trying to do the right thing...So, any help you can give me will be very much appreciate. Thanks a lot.
- In order for an image to be used, both the source and the copyright status need to be indicated. For something like a photo from a gallery on an official web site, the most likely copyright status is "press release photo". "Copyrighted, free for any use" means that the creator has explicitly given up all rights to the image, which is a fairly uncommon status. --Carnildo 04:43, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I'm going to try to put the photo up again, once my IP # is unblocked. I have aol and that sometimes happens. What about the bio? Should I post it here so that you can read it? Or, I can post the link to it as it's posted on his official website too. Please let me know so that I can put it back up again if you approve. If you approve the bio, is there anything that I have to add to it so that it's not deleted again? Thanks! --Abisel
- The biography should be written in your own words, not copied directly from another source. See Wikipedia:Copyrights#Using copyrighted work from others and Wikipedia:Fair use#Text. --Carnildo 02:53, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
- I wrote the biography for Mr. Gant's official website. I also included this note after I put it back up: Biography written by Abisel. I am also credited as the author of this Bio on the IMDB. If there is a problem please do not delete it. Please contact me on my talk page first. Thank you. Do you think this will be enough to keep the biography up on his page?
Thanks. Abisel
- The note should be placed on the article talk page, at the very top. You'll also need to keep an eye on the page -- many people don't check the article talk page when they think something's a copyvio. --Carnildo 00:40, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Carnildo, I really appreciate all the help. I did as you said and hope it's OK that I said you told me to place it on the top of the page. Thanks again! You have been great!
Bob Kasunic has been proposed for deletion. Please see WP:BIO and WP:VAIN for the relevant concerns. NickelShoe 22:24, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Image:Robert gant head shot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Robert gant head shot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Chowbok ☠ 23:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Peter paige.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. [edit]I have tagged Image:Headshotharrisallan.jpg as {{replaceable fair use}}. If you wish to dispute this assertion, please add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}} to the image description page and a comment explaining your reasoning to the the image talk page. Rettetast 09:01, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
