Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia! You are right to be concerned about over precision when converting quantities between different units. A few of your recent edits caught my eye. In the submarine communications cable article, for example, the second paragraph of the lead section began:

"Modern cables are typically about 25 millimetres (0.98 in) in diameter..."

This version of the text used {{convert|25|mm}}, which you changed to 25mm (1 inch) so that the imperial measurement was only stated to one significant figure. The better way of achieving the same result is to use the {{convert}} template, but to specify the number of decimal places to be given. I have changed to {{convert|25|mm|in|0|abbr=on}} and the first sentence of the second paragraph now reads:

"Modern cables are typically about 25 mm (1 in) in diameter..."

By including a |0 in the template, you can specify that "1 inch" will be given to 0 decimal places, which is a more appropriate degree of precision. You can find more information here: Template:Convert#Rounding: 100 ft is 30 m or 30.5 m or 30.48 m? Best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 07:41, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
