Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 23:03, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet doctoral advisors in error

[edit]

Lejeune Dirichlet's doctoral adviser was Carl Friedrich Gauss (see Mactutor Dirichlet ---google search will take you to the Mactutor bio page). This Wikipedia article says Fourier and Poisson. Where is the evidence? Please give a reference for all such claims of fact. In any case, although Fourier and Poisson started out on friendly terms as students, in their professional lives, after 1808, they became mortal enemies! 75.148.94.222 (talk) 20:07, 25 November 2015 (UTC) Al Roxburgh[reply]

Editing talk pages

[edit]

Hi. In your recent edit, you corrected the spelling in an old message. Please have a look at the talk page guidelines: "It is not necessary to bring talk pages to publishing standards, so there is no need to correct typing/spelling errors, grammar, etc. It may irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. The basic rule—with some specific exceptions outlined below—is that you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission." It's not a big deal, since the message is 6 years old, but generally it's something to avoid. RockMagnetist (DCO visiting scholar) (talk) 22:27, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
