Welcome to Wikipedia!
Hello IP user. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Paine Ellsworth, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge. Although you're free to perform most tasks on Wikipedia without registering, it's highly recommended you create an account as there are many added benefits. It's private and secure and it's also free, simple, and quick to do.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism
  Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{Help me}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles
  Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. If you register an account, you can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you could put a link to it on your user page.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your IP address linked to your contributions page (however, if you create an account, your IP address will be hidden and you will be able to build a custom signature that can link to your own user page), a link to this IP's talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

Sincerely, P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there (Leave me a message) 06:47, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, editor 2600:4041:57B1:3E00:BD1C:C8A8:47C2:5629, Viacom is now a disambiguation page. So when you link to the company, the way you did at Noel Maxam, please use:

[[Viacom (2005–2019)|Viacom]]

See more about linking at the help page and the project page. Thank you for your edits and for your support in this! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 06:47, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, please consider the creation of a free User account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Container categories

[edit]

Please don't add people to container categories like 19th-century American men. Mason (talk) 18:17, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 2600:4041:57B1:3E00:BD1C:C8A8:47C2:5629,

Please do not make mass changes with categories or emptying categories "out of process" instead of nominating categories at WP:CFD for merging, renaming or deletion. This is considered disruptive editing and your edits could be reverted. Liz Read! Talk! 01:19, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi 2600:4041:57B1:3E00:BD1C:C8A8:47C2:5629! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Category:Latvian women academics several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Category talk:Latvian women academics, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Please stop removing academics from the main occupation category. They are not fully nested within educators. I have raised this issue with you repeatedly.. Mason (talk) 01:32, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Information icon Hello, I'm Smasongarrison. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Category:Lithuanian physicians have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. I have raised the same issue on physicians being partially nested within scientists. You need to stop edit warring. Mason (talk) 01:34, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted as many of your changes as I can find. PLEASE STOP edit warring and refusing to engage in this process. You have been editing wikipedia for years, you need to make an account. Mason (talk) 01:49, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
