It is not necessary to avoid redirects like that. Thanks, Myrealnamm (💬pros · 📜cons) 21:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sink Cat: I haven't reverted the reverts of most of this IP user's edits to autism articles mostly because it's not super worth it to avoid the redirect (done it on two or three pages because I saw them and then checked the IP's contrib history and went "y'know, feels like a WP:notbroken at this point"), but at a glance it appears to just be good faith edits of "autism spectrum" to "autism" because the former was moved to the latter earlier this year. Doesn't seem disruptive, just that the rationale is unclear to any of the people reverting who didn't follow the links to see where they went because of the lack of edit summary. (Yes, I know uw-delete2 is a template. I just think this was more of a uw-editsummary situation when looking at the whole of the situation.)
To the IP user, for a more actionable comment going forward, you've been told before that you don't really have to avoid linking to a redirect, though I do know you're doing it to try to help! Further, I've decided to include the "edit summary" advisory below in case it helps you know how to include edit summaries in the future! That way people will realize what your reason for editing was, instead of assuming you might have been doing it to be disruptive.

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account, you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button.
