Sorry about the order of list

Vandalism Again
[edit]I've tried talking to our friend from the anonymous IP in chat and he still fails to understand the concept. I'm trying to get him to add some reasonable argument to his claim of dubiousness in the talk section and he refuses to do so -- instead relying on personal attacks against anyone who would criticize AJAX or Jesse James Garrett. He's now tried to add copyright content to the page and its getting out of hand. I have no problem with a dubious claim as long as he is following the guidelines in doing so -- providing his argument in a talk page where it can be discussed rationally. He will not accept the fact that criticism against Mr Garret or Ajax are valid and refuses to find a compromise. Help again would be appreciated. I sincerely appologize for dragging you into this. - Sleepnomore 21:43, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]I assure you Zzyzz, that image had no copyright whatsoever! Especially if it were on google, which it were, you should join the m:Association of Deletionist Wikipedians if you believe a google image is copyrighted, a lot of us spend a lot of time on those articles, and then ya'll come along and delete them, I am serious, I am not too happy a this moment, next time, don't be so conscious about a google image.

[edit]Hi I am not quite sure why this image was not a candidate for a speedy. I have re-read the policy but do not follow your reason for changing. Anyway, no big deal, I was just following the advice of Dbenbenn who nominated it for cleanup. Regards. --Cactus.man 15:21, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. Fair enough, but the policy is definitely not clearly worded, some improvement required I feel. Dbenbenn also seems to be a bit of an authority on image management, here and in the Commons. Regards --Cactus.man 15:47, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
- LOL
- I fully comprehend the reasons for not having diagrams as jpg files. I spent a small amount of time converting this particular jpg file to a 2 colour(1bit) png image, only to find someone had done it before me. So I removed the cleanup notice and marked it for deletion as per Dbenbenn. The advice in the article on preparing images is perfectly fine, it is the wording in the criteria for speedy deletion that I think is ambiguous. --Cactus.man 16:05, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
Hi, I think you were a bit hasty with this deletion. I checked out the claims and they're all kosher and so I added a bit of explanatory text for people unfamiliar with Brazilian literature, and a bibliography for those who can handle Portuguese (not difficult, it's a very simple language). Regarding vandalism
[edit]I submitted a report about vandalism last night and the user that submitted the vandalism continued to update the vandalizing wiki. Mintues ago I retaliated by writing an article about the user and I was warned not to do so again. I find it puzzling that while one form of vandalism is allowed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:Tybron.jpg) another is not.
- It does not help you when you upload another image like Image:Kiddylover.jpg to retaliate. Please go somewhere else for your personal attacks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 08:22, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- My profuse apologies, I felt that nothing was being done about the vandalism and the user continued to harass me over various means (e-mail, instant messengers, etc.) so I sunk to his level and did the same thing to him. It won't happen again.

Leaving Wikipedia
[edit]As someone who was formerly involved with one of my disputes, I thought you would like to know that I'm no longer editing on Wikipedia after yet another hotly contested debate over another article. In the mean time, you might want to know that the Jesse James Garrett article was vandalized again yesterday and the work that was so carefully discussed previously was removed. Feel free to leave it how it is or revert it. I just don't care anymore. I just thought you might want to know. Good luck with wikipedia. - Sleepnomore 20:53, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for acting on my request for Speedy Deletion of Hubbertism. However, you have made it a redirect to Hubbert peak theory. I am not sure that is the best thing to do. I've read somewhere in Wikipedia's many policies and guidelines that an article which is a target of a redirection should use the redirected word somewhere in the first paragraph. The logic of this is so the person who went to the redirected word can quickly see why they were redirected. I would object to using Hubbertism in the intro to Hubbert peak theory because Hubbertism is a neologism that I don't think should be afforded that sort of prominence. I ask you to consider outright deletion instead. Thanks! Johntex 19:01, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Zzzyzx11, thanks for your reply. I have in fact been working down the steps in dispute resolution. In addition to attempts to discuss the topic at the Article/Talk page, I have also attempted to engage other outside opinions by listing Hubbert peak theory at Wikiquette Alerts. If that fails, I guess the next step will be a request for mediation. As to Hubbertism, if neologisms are not candidates for Speedy Deletion, I will list it at VfD instead. [edit]Why isn't stacymariekeibler.com shown on the fan sites of Stacy Keibler's profile but yet others are. Stacy-k.org isn't even around anymore and stacy-vibe is a new site not even with 10,000 hits yet. To me that's unfair. Im sure the site owner will appreciate that considering they plug this site all the time.

I don't think the keep/delete debate in the AfD is directed towards whether the article should be moved, but rather whether the content should be kept. If it is kept, it really should be moved, as Frisbetarian is essentially a mis-spelling (at least relative to the spelling used by those accorded credit for inventing the term). Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 20:23, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Postscript: Disregard the above - out of respect for your position on the matter,I've opened a talk-page discussion proposing the move. I note, however, that a supporter in the AfD also suggested this move in the article itself.[1] -- BD2412 talk 20:56, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

On becoming less "controversial"
[edit]Thanks for your neutral vote on my RfA. The questions that I am asking myself in reading your comment about me being "too controversial" is:
- Is being an editor with a passion for NPOV and factual accuracy that edits articles in the "controversial" realm and that has to deal as a result of that involvement with a tremendous amount of animosity, being controversial?
- If so, how an editor can edit these type of articles without such animosity being engendered? Is there a "right" way to do this?
Your comments on my dilemma, would be appreciated. --ZappaZ 18:45, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
- [you said:] I do not fault you for trying to maintain NPOV in very controversial subjects. But the fact of the matter is that however controversial the subject may be, at least someone will want to put a bullseye on your head. That is unavoidable and so there are no easy answers on "the right way" to do this (other than to completely stop participating in editing those pages).
- Thank you for your feeback. This may be an interesting issue to explore further. If the solution for avoiding controversy is to avoid engaging editors and call them in their POV pushing and attempts to advocate a POV, WP will be poorer. I would prefer not being promoted to be an admin than to allow WP to be hijacked with the unfortunate result of losing the integrity and protection of NPOV. Take care. --ZappaZ 02:03, 11 September 2005 (UTC)

- Sorry to see you go. Anyway, as detailed at Wikipedia:User page#How do I delete my user and user talk pages?, it will be deleted after I make sure that the page's history does not contain evidence of policy violations that may need to be kept. But remember, others may request undeletion if they feel there was in fact a need to retain the page. Take care. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 23:45, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- I understand. I don't think there are any violations I just thought it would be good to clean the books. I may come back but it's a real time sink and not that much fun trying to discuss issues with hardliners. No one instance precipitated this feeling but a gradual build up of frustration with some other users who are non communicative. Thanks for the advice David D. (Talk) 00:00, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
Speedy user talk:
[edit]I drew that off the top of my head, actually. Seems I was wrong. I have just seen that when e.g. admins have left in a huff and deleted their talk pages they are invariably restored in case they are needed in future (TBSDY just recently, for example). Perhaps that's just admins because their pages are likely to contain useful conversations. I concerns me that the contents of a user talk page could be needed in a future arbitration or something, but I suppose as long as the deleter is sure that that kind of material is not there, then deleting per the page you cited is fine. Sorry. -Splashtalk 00:27, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Greetings! Regarding the removal of the NN-Bio notice on that article, was it because there was already an AfD in progress, or because it does not meet CSD:A7? I am asking because I don't see any assertion of notability (so I am sure it qualifies for CSD:A7), and in the recent Snowspinner discussion, most participants agreed that it was okay to speedy an article with an active AfD if CSD are met. Best regards. --inksT 09:41, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link to the CSD:A7 discussion. But as I understand it, that is still a proposal, and is not in effect yet? And as I understand CSD:A7, what is important is not whether the person is actually notable, but whether the article asserts notability, which this one does not. Nevermind. What will be will be, thanks for your explaination.--inksT 19:17, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
