Ouch man. I know how you feel. No worries. Whenever you're able to do the review is fine by me. (preferably before the end of next weekend though). Good luck with the homework! Cam (Chat) 03:34, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi! I just noticed that you'd expressed an interest in reviewing the Totalize article on the talk page. I'd already put a review tag on the GAN page, but if you want to review the article, feel free to go ahead and replace my tag with one of your own. There are plenty of other articles for me to review if you want to claim this one! Just let me know... Thanks for your work at GAN. Dana boomer (talk) 18:32, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed you'd nomed a few. Thanks for contributing to the reviews after doing so, it helps reduce the backlog! I'll try to get to your noms soon...I'm just slightly ADD and they're a little...long. *grin* Dana boomer (talk) 18:38, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
*Pouts* But, but, but...I like ship articles (especially short ones like Bellhalla writes) *grin*. Yeah, I just found out about that contest and realized that all of my Bellhalla reviews were likely annoying a few other editors. Oh, well, I'm an equal opportunity passer - if other editors get their articles up there, I'll review them too! And yes, I plan to get to at least one of your noms today or tomorrow...just found out that tomorrow's afternoon class was canceled, which gives me an extra couple of hours off. Dana boomer (talk) 19:37, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
No problem, I expect nothing less of you as a GA-Reviewer. I'm already onto addressing the sourcing issues, and I'll try to have as many of them as I can fixed by the time I go to bed tonight. All the best, Cam (Chat) 22:47, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Sourcing questions
Sorry for not replying yet. I have been unable to find a source with regards to the regunning of Nevada. I will continue to look but I cannot promise anything. As for the engine situation with Oklahoma, I know I have the source laying around somewhere, but I have yet to dig it up yet, so I can only as for patience on that regard. -MBK004 19:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
I've complete the review for the USS Triton (SSRN-586) article, and have notified the main editor, as you requested. There are quite a few MOS, reference and issue concerns... It would be great if you could hop into the fray on anything that you can help with, and I'll start my round of MOS and prose editing sometime tomorrow. Dana boomer (talk) 20:49, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Will do ASAP (this was the article that I haven't worked on, so sorry...) Thanks! -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 20:53, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Meet me in the Midway
How good are your sources? I found a clear contradiction (explained here) I can't resolve from my sources to hand. I'll have a look at the UoS library when I get a chance, but if you've got something handier... TREKphilerhit me ♠ 22:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, what's the contradiction? It went right over my head... -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 23:25, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
That's what I get for hiding behind a pseudonym. ;D If Blair's right (& I think he is), it can't be Kirishima, which is a BB. I suspect the website is relying on Brockman's original (wrong) ID, from DANFS (probably), which is unreliable itself. I'm hoping there's a more reliable source that confirms/refutes Blair. I don't have Morison's 15v at hand (in storage...), but I'm going to look in the next day or so. If you can get it online somewhere, or you've got something handy that serves... TREKphilerhit me ♠ 23:31, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
These support her shooting at a BB: this, this and this. He did misidentify destroyers as cruisers later...this book supports you...ugh. Maybe you should put both in the article? ("It is disputed...") Also, the sources seem to not agree on whether Nagara was a heavy or light cruiser...(from what I saw) -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 00:35, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Brockman misidentifying wasn't a rare case, it was pretty common early in the war. (It wasn't helped by Yubari resembling a destroyer.) This is Roscoe's official history, written soon after the war & based on patrol reports entirely (AFAIK), so it's no better than Brockman. (It's a useful source, but IMO Blair supercedes it.) Midway: Dauntless Victory looks interesting (but, Saratoga?!). This is no good, either; it credits loss of Soryu to Nautilus, which Blair has disproven. (Roscoe is out of date, is all.) Sea Battles in Close-up I put an interlibrary loan for, on the off-chance, but it'll be awhile. If Kirishima really was the target, I have to think Blair would've mentioned it; an attack on a battleship on the high seas was big for a sub. Bicheno is confirmed by Blair, but he's not saying anything else AFAI can tell; it bears getting, too. Thanks for looking, anyhow. TREKphilerhit me ♠ 02:41, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I really do need to pay more attention. More careful (...) reading of Blair, which I should have done before, clarifies: Nautilus got a shot at a BB; Blair doesn't ID her, & credits Kirishima to Red Ramage's Trout. TREKphilerhit me ♠ 03:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I do the same thing sometimes...(I skip read, so it's a lot) No big deal! -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 04:07, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
And a confession: the only sources I have are the original 1959 version of The Longest Day and a book by Seversky from back in 1942(? right around there)....the title is Victory through Air Power or something like that....otherwise, I use Google Books. =/ -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 04:11, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm envious, then. I don't have a copy of de Seversky, but I wish I did... And Google books was enough to fix the problem on the Nautilus page, so thanks for that. TREKphilerhit me ♠ 17:58, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I got it for like 25 cents at my high school library book sale (they were getting rid of books that no one read, so I grabbed it!!) xD -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 18:00, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Devil May Care, written by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), has become Penguin Books fastest selling hardcover fiction title. It is the latest installment in the book series about British secret agent James Bond and was released to coincide with the 100th anniversary of late Bond creator Ian Fleming's birthday on May 28, 1908.
Me Cheeta: the Autobiography, written by a ghostwriter, is the autobiography of Cheeta the Chimp who is listed in the Guinness World Records as the oldest recorded non-human primate at the age of 76. He has appeared in various movie roles which included twelve Tarzan movies and even battled addiction to alcohol and cigars. The book is not published until October 1, but judges for the 2008 Guardian First Book Award were sent a early version and were so impressed that they have included it on the 10-strong longlist.
Stephenie Meyer, who is listed by Time magazine as one of its 100 most influential people of 2008, has decided not to continue with writing her draft for Midnight Sun after 12 chapters of the unfinished manuscript were leaked on the internet.
Current debates
Categories for Discussion has a series of discussions about whether to categorize certain specific types of fictional characters: double agents, dictators, characters with eidetic memory, etc. Advice from any Novels project members would be valuable in assisting them.
WikiProject Media franchises aims to help editors with the coordination of articles within the thousands of media franchises which exist and has requested input from our members. They are currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Since this may affect one or more articles in our Novel project, they would like to get opinions before implimenting any changes.
With the Newsletter being almost three months overdue, I have decided to take on the position of Editor to make sure it reaches you regularly on time each month. Shortly a Coordinator nominations notice shall also be sent out to all members, which will commence the annual Coordinator selection process.
Next month's Newsletter will include a message from our Coordinator Maria, who will introduce herself and speak on our forthcoming elections for extra Coordinators.
This month's Collaboration has been selected by popular vote and is Look Homeward, Angel. The next collaboration is due for selection on 14 September, 2008 so cast your vote.
Newsletter challenge
Our last newsletter's challenge The Pure Land was completed by our member Maclean25, who also provided us with tipline news for this newsletter.
The first person to start the article is mentioned in the next newsletter. This month's article is Leslie Ann Moore's first book in her fantasy 'Griffin's Daughter' trilogy, which was named by the Independent Book Publishers Association as the 2008 Ben Franklin Award winner for Best First Fiction, Griffin's Daughter. Note: This article was previously deleted due to lack of notability, but that now can be established since winning this award.

Please return to WikProject Media franchises
Dear The ed17...You are invited to come back to discuss WikiProject Media franchises. Since you participated in one or more discussions of the project, possibly when it was known as WikiProject Fictional series, I hope to see you return to it. The project needs your participation. Currently there is no activity on the project's talk page about the reorganization which is discouraging. I had great expectations for this project as it touches so many topics but am becoming discouraged. I hope to see you return. LA(If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page.) @ 19:41, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to undertake this. What exactly do you want done? I mean beside sourcing, editing, info, etc.cdmajava There are always possibilities... 00:26, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmmmmm. Good question. I can't find sources on much of them... which is why I listed it there. Can you get one or two to GA? Maybe Allanon and The Elfstones of Shannara? I'll help as much as I can, too. (And, out of curiosity, what article(s) am I to help you on?) -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 00:56, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, I've read most of the Shannara series, so I can probably get more info and refs for those articles. As for which one for me, I don't really need one done. I just have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of free time.
cdmajava There are always possibilities... 01:08, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, if you could help me with my user page I'd appreciate it. I'll make a list of stuff and post it on my talk page. I'd like to warn you though, it might take me a while to get your shannara articles properly done. I can only access the full internet at school, but I can get the books easily.cdmajava There are always possibilities... 03:24, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, started work on Allanon.cdmajava There are always possibilities... 04:18, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
No big deal if it takes awhile...but I'm warning you—it's going to be hard to find sources for the Original Trilogy...the books are too old...and of course Sword, Elfstones and First King are my three favorites... =( And I'll do whatever you can do for your userpage. =D Lastly, if it comes down to this or schoolwork, pick schoolwork. -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 06:37, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure my county library has the books. If not, I can just request them. Did you check the Allanon talk page?Cdmajavatalk 19:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Triton
Please review the latest comments from dana boomer regarding the GA review of the USS Triton (SSRN-586). I find them troublesome, problematic, almost bait-and-switch, in light of the effort that I have put into upgrading the USS Triton article which was, prior to my involvement, was little more than a cut-and-paste job from the Dictionary of American Navy Fighting Ships (DANFS), but was still rated as a "B-class" article. I am troubled about the negativity regarding the USS Triton message board since they are posted by former crew members who know their ship. I certainly would not have known that the reason why Triton had not been scrapped until 2007 was because of the configuration of its reactor compartment, and this is not something that would be readily available elsewhere. Regarding the Yahoo post, the poster was Tim Tyler who had an extensive web site of the NECPA program, including information about Triton. Tyler's site has been down since 2001, and his post does include a copyright notice. As someone who has a degree in history, is a senior technical writer who has worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, Lockheed Martin, Nortel Networks, General Electric, UPS, IMB, etc., and has spent the better part of a decade researching the Triton circumnavigation for a possible screenplay, I know this subject and feel that the cre of the Triton deserve some recognition for their achievement. Sorry to vent, but you seem receptive.
P.S. - Don't you agree that the above message would have been easier to read if I have broken it don into smaller paragraphs? Marcd30319 (talk) 22:08, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm. Well, I don't think that it was actually a B-class article before—someone might have rated it as such, but in reality, it wasn't. The message board is prohibited simply because it is a message board...it says that they aren't allowed somewhere in the MoS. (can't finish my reply--leaving now!! (see below))
I've gotta go for the weekend too--I'm going home from college (right this second). Go ahead and vent as much as you need, and I'll be back to answer anything else as soon as I can. Cheers, -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 22:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay, back to finish my reply.
"Message boards" are disallowed somewhere by default, though I forget where. The reasn is that anyone can post there, I believe. Are there any other sources for those refs anywhere? As for Tyler's site, try looking for it in a web archive such as the Internet Archive. Were there any interviews anywhere in newspaper from way back when. Like these articles?
"As someone who has a degree in history, is a senior technical writer who has worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, Lockheed Martin, Nortel Networks, General Electric, UPS, IMB, etc., and has spent the better part of a decade researching the Triton circumnavigation for a possible screenplay, I know this subject and feel that the cre of the Triton deserve some recognition for their achievement." Are you serious?!? That's awesome!!
P.S. Yes, it would have been—but what she meant is that one-paragraph sentences are bad...in my view, it should be a three-sentence minimum, unless the information in it is completely different from the preceeding and subsequent paragrahs... Don't worry so much about paragraph length though. The refs are a more serious matter. =)
I'll be out of touch tommorow and most of Sunday due to my trip home...my apoligies. Cheers, -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 03:25, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
This: What should we think when we see your quality of writing (numerous spelling errors, comma splices)? Will you be able to fix this so that you will be clear when making a decision? Sorry... -talk-the_ed17-contribs- 01:50, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Triton GA
Thanks for the heads-up. I had noticed, just hadn't gotten around to replying. I was away from the Internet all weekend, got back late last night, and have been frantically trying to catch up with work and school - all of this being the reason why I disappeared for a few days! I have to go to class in a few minutes, but will post my replies early this afternoon. Dana boomer (talk) 13:52, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Yup, saw that one...decided not to touch it :) I may if it sits around long enough, but really, I try to avoid controversy, and there is plenty of other stuff for me to do without criticizing an article on WP's founder! Why don't you have a go, hmmmm? *Laughs*
Btw, I did another round on the Triton. I'm done playing with it for the moment, so if you want to take a stab at the next-to-last list on the review page, go ahead! Dana boomer (talk) 20:23, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
