Welcome to my User Page. My name is Sreekrishnan Narayanan and I reside in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. I worked for the general insurance industry in India (Salem, Coimbatore, and Chennai in Tamil Nadu) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) for nearly thirty-six years, and currently, I am on a career break. Though I have been associated with Wikipedia since 2010, my contributions were insignificant until recently. I got an opportunity to attend the 20th-anniversary celebrations of Tamil Wikipedia as a delegate. This event was held at the Tamil University, Thanjavur, on the 24th of September 2023, rekindling my passion to contribute as much as I could.

It is heartening to note that fellow Wikipedians are very helpful and cooperative. The attitude suggests that they will leave no stone unturned to accomplish the objective on which their focus lies. The Thanjavur event was reflective of this attitude among almost everyone that I interacted with. This positive attitude is probably the outcome of a strong urge to contribute as much as possible to society at large.

Wikipedia, through its mission involving crowd-sourcing of information, has been promoting education and spreading knowledge, a noble service to humanity. This pride can be seen glowing on the face of every Wikipedian.

As I see it, Wikipedia is a treasure of knowledge, wide open to the public. The abundance of information one can retrieve from an open-source repository is no mean achievement. The concept reminds me of a proverb[1] about knowledge, reproduced below.

न चोरहार्यं न च राजहार्यं ।
न भ्रातृभाज्यं न च भारकारि ।
व्यये कृते वर्धते नित्यम् ।
विद्याधनम् सर्वे धनात् प्रधानम् ।।

Meaning: Education is the best wealth of all. No one can steal it; no King can seize it. It is not distributed among brothers and is not burdensome. It keeps ever increasing. When one shares, it expands!

Travel

[edit]

I love travelling around the world and have visited the following countries, among which I lived only in the United Arab Emirates, outside my home country of India.
