Reference

[edit]

This is primarily for my own use, but I will also be sure to keep it documented such that it may be of use to others as well.

Citations

Explanatory footnotes

[edit]

From Template:Sfn § A citation inside an explanatory footnote:

It is also possible to use the magic word {{#tag:ref|...}} and the {{sfn}} template will work correctly inside the footnote, as shown in the second example.

The second example:

Markup Renders as
Interesting fact.{{#tag:ref|Clarification of interesting fact.{{sfn|Smith|2017}}}}

==Citations==
{{reflist}}

==References==
* {{cite book
| last = Smith
| date = 2017
| title = Smith's other book }}

Interesting fact.[2]

Notes
  1. ^ Smith 2017.
  2. ^ Clarification of interesting fact.[1]
References
  • Smith (2017). Smith's other book.

Useful templates

[edit]
Template Description
{{reftalk}} aka {{Reflist-talk}}

Version of {{Reflist}} designed for use outside of articles, e.g. on Talk pages.
{{remoteref|last1|yyyy|article=ArticleName|note=number}} Creates a footnote on a Talk page that links to a CS1/CS2 citation in an article; uses same first positional params as {{sfn}}.
{{seclink|Article#Section|nopage=y}} aka {{Section link}}

Link to a section of a page (even outside mainspace).
{{tlx|Reflist-talk}} aka {{Template link expanded}}

Displays template markup in monospaced font while also linking to the template. See also {{tji}} for a more complex use case.
{{tji|seclink|Article#Section|nopage=y}} aka {{Template journal inline}}

Displays template markup in monospaced font with syntax highlighting, which I prefer to use if also demonstrating parameters. See also {{tlx}} for a simpler use case.
