Notes
[edit]- ^ Frustrated with the format of the draft, Buffalo general manager Punch Imlach picked the name Taro Tsujimoto from a phone book. Imlach claimed Tsujimoto was a player for the "Tokoyo Katanas". NHL officials validated the selection, but weeks later Imlach admitted it was a fabrication. The selection was ruled invalid by the NHL and removed from their records.

- ^ Barrasso came straight from high school (Acton-Boxborough High School in Massachusetts) to the NHL.
- ^ Weinrich was born on December 19, 1966. In order to be eligible for the 1984 draft, players needed to be born before September 15, 1966. The Sabres' selection of Weinrich was invalidated.

- ^ The Sabres were unable to sign Zigomanis to a contract, and he was re-drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes (2nd round, 46th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
- ^ The Sabres were unable to sign Dicaire to a contract, and he was re-drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning (5th round, 162nd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
- ^ Eidsness has not yet advanced to Tier 1 junior hockey or collegiate hockey.
- ^ Fienhage has not yet advanced to Tier 1 junior hockey or collegiate hockey.
