It is often the case that in deletion debates, eventualists argue that potential, not just current state of an article should be the criterion for inclusion in the encyclopaedia. This essay encourages editors who argue from this perspective to be proactive in taking simple steps towards bringing that article much closer to it's potential state.

Poor quality articles which are kept as a result of deletion discussions in which the notability of the topic was proven are sometimes nominated for deletion months later, after no effort has been made to improve them since the discussion. This is indicative of a dysfunctional process.
