Greg B. Smith

Gregory Smith is an American author, journalist, and educator focused on the American and Italian mafias, public planning spaces, and Roman society. He is currently based in Rome, Italy where he studies at Temple University. Smith earned his Ph.D in Social Anthropology at Oxford University[1].

Smith taught at Cornell University, Notthingham Trent University, Temple University, and American University, where he was the Dean of Academic Affairs for over a decade.

His published work, "Social Agriculture, Antimafia and Beyond: Toward a Value Chain Analysis of Italian Food", focuses on the anthropology of food in Roman society[2]. His fist book publication is set to release in July 2022.

"He is co-editor of a collection of essays published by Ashgate on Public Space in Rome through the Ages. He has collaborated actively with The International House of Women."

"Smith is currently on the steering committee for the Biennial of Public Space, organized by the Italian National Planning Institute (INU Lazio). This international initiative brings together scholars and planners working on public space in Italy and in the world. Within the biennial, he is codirecting a special session on the history of public space in Rome, as well as a session on teaching urban studies workshops. He received his Ph.D. from Oxford University."
