re: VP. Proposals, "Simple English"
My connection is too poor (i.e. slow) for that long page for some reason today... but I see nothing to add, and only the report on the malformation of the text by a previous posting editor to be concerned about... so I've made further inquiries of him. Reading your answer, the only thing I have to address or can guess I should, is the belief that most people never get so low on a page as to see external links, ... mostly only we editors, who have to give TLC to the whole article... and no, can't prove that, but not many have the attention span to read to the end of most comprehensive articles unless they are really into the topic, and even then suspect most will and do ignore such things as external links and references, unless they're in school and writing a paper. In any event, that's my premise, and I'm sticking to it... hence the advice to revisit the policy! <G> Bottom line, we clutter up articles enough with infoboxes and disambig lines (e.g. most all the RedirectsN templates like {{redirect2}} and friends), that I see little harm in a cross-link to sisters up top and visible. If a corner template is presenting browser links, an noprint class banner of similar height across the page top with Icons and the sister's name... something better than hiding the sisters in the external links. BTW-I've fought the same battle from the other perspective... a link to our pages from theirs, and most of them do so prominently and up top... I think it proper we return the "respect". Cheers! // FrankB 21:40, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Advance Wars 4 Cover.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Advance Wars 4 Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

What I uploaded was, in fact, the real contrast released by Nintendo and is used by major game sites such as gamespot.
It is more factual and accurate then the older, brownish image.

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Jmlk17 08:04, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Editing the AW: DoR article is actually what got me involved with Wikipedia. It's surprising I've actually provided that much to the article, especially when I thought I spent more time on the Call of Duty 4 page. Once the game is actually released, I can get to work on the plot section and maybe add a little more to the campaign section. Anyway, thanks for the recognition, I appreciate it. Comandante42 (talk) 01:56, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Re: Sounds good. I plan on beating the campaign before I focus on the multiplayer, though, but I'll post my friend code in a userbox on my user page sometime around the 24th. By the way, I was thinking of uploading the image at the link to show two of the new units in action: [1]. A) Good idea, B) Find another image, C) No new image needed. Your opinion?
- P.S. I was about to post this when I saw the third message you added. 90%!? Maybe I obsess a little. I wonder how much it would be if you took into account the IP I edited under before I registered... Comandante42 (talk) 02:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Re: Thanks again. I'll have my FC posted anyway for a few other people I know, so if you ever get the game just post yours. Comandante42 (talk) 03:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
And while I'm still semi-conscious and feeling the effects of no sleep for 24 hrs, let me go ahead and thank you for catching my mistake on the image. I've been alternating between a huge school project (three pages to go), scanning the web for game news, and watching the Weather Channel (the elevator music is catchy); I guess this was bound to happen at some point. Comandante42 (talk) 04:25, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
RE: I wish. I'm going to my local Gamestop around noon to see if they got it. A GS employee on a forum I've been watching claims that if you live close to Washington and Georgia, then the store will have it. Otherwise, the East coast should have it Tuesday. Another forum said that Targets in the Midwest actually released it on the 20th, and since GS is nextdoor to the Target in my town, and I'm in Ohio (which is semi-Midwest), I've got two chances. If they don't have the game, I'll go for the Prima guidebook; GS always has the guides on time. Wait... Nevermind, I have to buy the game at GS because I reserved it there. If only they didn't hype video games, then I wouldn't have to worry about all of this. Comandante42 (talk) 05:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Penubag. To answer your question, yes, it is Inkscape I have been using. The spring in Image:Spring-mass2.svg is actually part of a transformer winding I made before, but don't tell anyone... — BillC talk 14:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I have played several wi-fi matches with random opponents, and each time I tried using the microphone I got no response, even when I tried multiple times to egg them on to yell at me or something. I think the person who wrote that review that was cited was either playing a prank or simply mistaken (more likely). Anyway, the game is great so far. I'm at mission 16 and have unlocked three more COs so far (you start out with four). I plan on trying out wi-fi with friend codes in a day or so, once I get some more practice in. Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Have (linguistics), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. UV rays from the sun
Most UV rays from the sun do not penetrate the ozone layer unless there is an ozone hole. Of course, some UV rays get through even if you have an intact ozone layer, but very little compared to optical light or radio waves. There is always a little bit of penetration, but compared to other wavelengths it is negligible. ScienceApologist (talk) 23:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Can you help?
I'm not sure what to do at this point. A user has been repeatedly changing the genre of AW: DoR to turn-based strategy, but it should be turn-based tactics. He appears to be ignoring arguments that he is incorrect in his assertions, and is trying to get the page protected just to prevent changing the article. I've tried talking with him on his talk page, but I'm very easily irritated and think I may do something I'll regret. I just need to know if there is anything further I can do to resolve the situation before things boil over. Comandante42 (talk) 00:18, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice, I've uploaded the scan here: [2]. I forgot I probably shouldn't have uploaded it directly to WP, but if/when it's deleted I can try and move it to a more appropriate location. Comandante42 (talk) 01:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that is very vague. This whole fiasco could have been avoided had the articles been merged in the first place. While I strongly believe that AW: DoR is tactical game (Tactics= small-scale battles, strategy= entire campaigns; since you can't choose the conditions of the battles in AW and have to follow the campaign made for you, the gameplay of AW is more tactical; my opinion, though), combining t. and s. into one general topic would eliminating arguments over the differences of them and make classifying games easier. Instead of specifying as t., just generalize as s., since t. is a sub-genre of s. anyway. Was I confusing? I'll assume yes and just say I agree with your plan. Comandante42 (talk) 01:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link. Hopefully we can bring this issue to a conclusion that satisfies everyone involved. I'll go ahead and post my support there. Comandante42 (talk) 03:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, I give up. I just see don't see how to reason with DeathMark on the AW: DoR page. It's pointless disputes like this that take away the enjoyment I have editng WP. Since I don't want to prolong my part in the dispute, I'm just going to try and ignore it and continue to improve the rest of the article, whatever the genre ends up being (by the way, I still support your merge of the strategy and tactics articles). I appreciate your efforts in resolving this issue, and I think you've earned this:

Removal of information regarding a topic based on your dispute over a game
I have to take very strong objection to your erasure of any mention ([3], [4], [5]) of turn-based tactics from Wikipedia based on your dispute over Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Turn-based tactics is an established genre with many reliable sources certifying that it exists. Your reasoning behind removal of the content is based purely on original research. I hope you do not do such a thing again. SharkD (talk) 07:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- I erased the mention of TBT because it is the same as TST (I replyed at the project talk), but it may be better to mention it once in the intro. None of the sources you provide tell me it is a genre, the sources provided just state TBT in the article. Show me a site that has both TBT and the word TST in it (I don't think you will because they are synonms of each other (which is why we are merging the articles)). My removal of content is not original research, rather, I am removing original research. -- penubag 07:40, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:AWDoR Box highlighted.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Answer
I have every game in the AW series. I got the original AW as a gift for Christmas of the year the it was released, and I've been playing the games ever since. Any particular reason you ask? Comandante Talk 01:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have all four, but I'm biased in favor of innovation. DoR is my favorite out of the group because of all of the new bells and whistles (Wi-Fi capability, improved map designer, fresh style and storyline). I expect when a fifth game is made, I'll jump on the bandwagon with that one too. Out with the old and in with the new is almost my motto, and not just with video games. Despite having new features, though, it feels like DoR sacrificed a little too much. There's no more earning points to spend on unlockables, the War Room is gone, and the music is less memorable. Perhaps AW 5 will reach a happy medium between the old and new, balancing content, quality, and replay value. Overall, I must say that if you could only play one game from the series, then DoR is the best choice, but not by a landslide. Comandante Talk 02:14, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, I've always got time to dilate on stuff like this. Just don't get me started on politics. Comandante Talk 02:27, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Random answer: Logical positivism. Answer: Internet Explorer 7. Comandante Talk 02:39, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- Why not? I've always thought my user page was a little bland anyway. If you don't think it would be any trouble on your part, then go ahead. Comandante Talk 03:08, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done. My mistake in the earlier reply; I read one thing, was thinking of another, and was also watching TV as I absent-mindedly typed an answer. Comandante Talk 03:27, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Got it all set up, and they're working fine; I especially like the clock. Thanks. Comandante Talk 19:48, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- The clock's a great help; it's one of those small things that seems to do more than what's expected of it. Once again, thanks. Comandante Talk 03:01, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Both versions look fine to me. Incidentally, have you tried talking with the other editor outside of edit summaries? east.718 at 07:24, February 22, 2008
WWII montage
Hello Penubag. I know that you were pushing for a new infobox montage for the WWII article. Oberiko and I have been discussing some new images for it here, if you wanted to participate in the discussion. If you've lost interest in it, that's fine too, I just wanted to let you know of the recent developments. Regards, Parsecboy (talk) 14:13, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
ASCII Art
The Ascii art is awesome. But I'm having some trouble. I copied your Wikipedia logo to my userpage (still have to cite you) and that worked fine. OK, my rerquest is a little much, but here it is. Go to http://chris.com/ascii/ , click on the category "The Simpsons", and scroll down to the 4th picture. It looks like Homer standing up. Then put it on my page for me. It would be awesome of you to help me out. I saw on your talk page that you wouldn't be on Wikipedia for a while, so any time you can do this would be great. -- 224jeff6 TALK2ME 22:45, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll do it in a few days :) little busy at the moment-- penubag (talk) 02:59, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
links being removed
I have posted a few informational links for example to Rhacodactylus ciliatus and auriculatus the links are to a non for profit website that contains useful information in regards to different animals of gekkota. The links keep getting removed as stated a spam site. For a informational free encyclopedia site you sure are quick to remove links that are informative and very useful. Here's a link to the site Gekkonids I hope you will take some time out and look around and see how much information it contains and how useful it can be as an external link on the site. For some reason my account has been either locked or deleted. Giant Leopard Moth
I live in northern Illinois and found the Caterpillar form of the Leopard Moth in my garage in Fall. We have fed and kept him as a "pet" since. He has very recently since become the Moth that he was destined to be however we aren’t sure what he/she eats! I’m sure that he/she will soon die off as Giant Leopard moths aren’t common in Illinois. But want to try to keep him alive until we can release him when the snow breaks.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help you could offer!

- Sure, I'm glad to help! If you have further questions, though, you may want to ask Wikipedia:Reference desk because you'll get a quicker reply. I'm not exactly sure of an answer but do you know if your moth has a tongue? If so then the only food it will eat is the nectar from a flower, like a butterfly. I'm not exactly sure of flower species, but Honey suckle will probably do. But your moth may not have any mouth at all and as a result, have no need to eat. This type of moth only lives for one week and lives only to reproduce. I'm guessing it's the latter situation. But, I do know one thing for sure, once the moth has fully matured, you need to release it right away. It will have an instinct to find the food it eats (if it does eat), and it will need to reproduce. I'm sorry I was not very much help, you may want to also ask the Wikipedia:Reference desk and maybe someone over there has a clearer answer. -- penubag (talk) 01:23, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: ?
Yeah, you created a redirect to Wiktionary, which shows up as a broken redirect on enwiki. My cleanup tool tried following this and ended up at enwikt, where it started running wild trying to make deletions, except I'm not an admin there. :-P east.718 at 05:28, March 1, 2008
- No problem!

Hello, I noticed you speak fluent Japanese and I was wondering if you knew about Japanese music - including traditional/classical & popular/modern. If so, would you like to join http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alexhl/WikiProject? Even small contributions are much appreciated. Thanks.
