Universal Rocks is a group of French-Portuguese SME, with its nerve center located in Saint-Pierre-du-Perray, France. It specializes in creating concrete decorations for amusement parks, zoos, campgrounds, leisure centers, and more.
History
[edit]The company was founded in 2011[1] in Portugal through the collaboration of two men: Fabio MAIURI and Helder DA SILVA LOPES. Both are sculptors of shotcrete rocks, with solid experience of over 10 and 20 years respectively in creating decorations for amusement parks.
Initially operating as a subcontractor for decoration companies, Universal Rocks quickly became independent.
In 2016, the French entity "UNIVERSAL ROCKS DECORATION EUROPEENNE" (URDE) was established to respond to French tenders.[2]
Projects

Among their main clients and projects, one can count the Europa-Park complex, notably for the renovation of the Piraten in Batavia[3] attraction, Rulantica[4] with its Kronasar hotel and numerous zones such as "Vikingløp," "Nordiksturn," "Svalgurok," and "Vinterhal," among others.
They are, among others, the manufacturers of artificial rocks and facades for the fictional village of "Klugheim" (within the "Mystery" themed area) around the Taron roller coaster at Phantasialand[5], Krampus Expedition at Nigloland[6][7], and the centerpiece of a wooden roller coaster at Alton Towers: the head of the Wicker Man[8].
In addition to amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, shopping malls, hotels and buildings, Universal Rocks also participates in the creation of the cave for the new Vitry-sur-Seine station (Mairie de Vitry-sur-Seine) on Line 15 of the Paris metro (Grand Paris Express)[9]. This involves sculpting over 3000m² of rocks "to give travelers the feeling of entering a cathedral of rocks".
In 2019, Universal Rocks was awarded the European prize for best attraction decoration.[10]
