The Kilgour family of Guelph, Ontario is a Scottish-Canadian family of politicians, lawyers, insurance executives and physicians. James L. Kilgour, the family's patriarch, had come to Guelph from Fife, Scotland in 1845, initially settling in nearby Eramosa.[1] The family has since branched out to Toronto, Western Canada, and England. Having been described as a "traditionally Liberal family," its members and extended relations have included two Liberal MPs, a Liberal senator, a Liberal-appointed provincial justice, and the spouse of a Liberal prime minister.[2] With connections to the prominent McCrae family of Guelph, the descendants of Geills Marie Christie Kilgour (née McCrae) are also the closest living relatives of John McCrae, the author of "In Flanders Fields," who died childless in 1918.[3]
