Course Evaluation Essay

Through this Wikipedia course, I learned how to edit an existing Wikipedia stub and insert my own research and findings. Unlike other classes, this class was more about the process and learning as the class proceeded. It was not really about the end product, but the things that I learned while editing. It was more about the journey. I learned Wikipedian etiquette and how to insert citations and links. I also learned the best process of critiquing existing articles.

The article that my group chose was on despeciation. We chose this article stub because it was a topic that we had previous knowledge of and we knew that there would be a lot more information that we could insert into the article after researching the topic. The article stub that we chose only had a definition of despeciation and one example. After researching the topic, we decided to explain the process more in-depth and to insert more examples so that an audience with no scientific background could understand the process a bit more. Therefore, we decided to add specific information based on our research findings.

Each of my group members contributed something to the article. When looking at my edits, I know that I inserted some excellent examples of despeciation and convergent evolution that will enable readers to better understand despeciation. Specifically, my edits consisted of a detailed description of Mullerian and Batesian Mimicry. I also discussed how convergent evolution was a big part of the phylogeny of Homo sapiens.

Article Evaluation

When I select my article, I plan to ensure that it has credible ercises to understand how to work Wikipedia. So far, it is going well. I am a little confused on how to start a new sandbox page, but I am going to review the training modules so that I may be able to continue these journals and start my first project. I am excited for this opportunity.
