About Me
[edit]Hello! I am David, a 74 yr old state government attorney and retired state police officer who un-retired in 2015 to go back to work for the state. I used Wikipedia pretty regularly when I worked before and still use it now and then to come up to speed on esoteric matters and for purely personal interests too. I am still figuring out this being a Wikipedia contributor thing. I don't do a lot of editing, but when I see an article that I think needs updating or correcting it's hard to resist. Pointers welcomed; criticisms accepted; flames laughed at. Remember that at one point in time even the most proficient practitioner was a novice trying to figure out how it all worked.
My Interests
[edit]I used to like to use my pilot's license to fly single-engine aircraft, would ride my Harley-Davidson, and build fine-scale models, but sadly aged out of those hobbies. I still target shoot and sometimes go on cruises. FSU baseball is still a passion. I was in a police motorcycle club (The Blue Knights) and a Jewish motorcycle club (Canaan Cruisers of Tallahassee-an affiliate of the Jewish Motorcyclists Alliance) when I still rode. I'm interested in military history and like to visit Civil War forts and battlefields. My best experiences include touring the Gettysburg Battlefield with National Park Service Chief Historian Emeritus Ed Bearss, going on an Alaskan cruise, and seeing the 18th century St. Thomas Synagogue in St. Thomas Virgin Islands. I am an avid reader and trivia buff. I don't pretend to be an expert on how to edit Wikipedia pages but one of the entries on my "Retirement To Do List" was to become a Wikipedia maven. It hasn't happened yet, but hope springs eternal.
