[edit]The primary election was held on May 2, 2023. Melton challenged incumbent Mayor Jerome Prince. Melton won in the Democratic primary, receiving nearly 61% of the vote. [1][2] In the general election, Eddie Melton faced Republican nominee Andrew Delano. Melton won the mayoral race receiving 6,364 votes to Delano's 313. Melton took office on January 1, 2024.[3]

[edit]Melton was sworn in to office on December 30, 2023 by Lake County Prosecutor, Bernard Carter at West Side Leadership Academy.[4]In his inaugural address, Mayor Melton emphasized the need for change and a forward-looking vision for a "greater Gary."[5]
