Who am I?
[edit]Personally
[edit]Like many others, I am a collection of all sorts of geekery and fun:
- I am an avid fan of old British comedies such as Red Dwarf, Black Adder, and Chef!
- I read books of all kinds voraciously (though, I'm partial to fantasy and sci-fi books).
- I draw infrequently in my spare time, usually spending the rest of it enjoying video games.
- I love watching video essayists on YouTube.
- I watch anime and read manga.
- I consume podcasts like no tomorrow.
- I like to plan out my costume and entertainment for every Halloween.
In short, if there's something geeky about, I've probably heard of it.
Professionally
[edit]My overload of geekiness is very likely why I ended up as a writer for work. Initially, I started off writing blurbs about queer movies as a college intern for the charity organization Out On Screen. During that time, I also realized I had an eye (and love) for consistency in writing and other traits that made me well-suited for copy editing, proofreading, and other editorial work. It's why for a time, I became a member of and volunteer for Editors Canada. I started out as a proofreader for the British Columbia branch's blog and eventually became the publications chair for a couple of years. Meanwhile, I gained paid experience as a copywriting specialist for Yellow Pages and left to be a content writer for an online business.
That soon led me to my current workplace at Kryton International Inc.As a content marketing specialist there, I create blog posts, newsletters, e-books, and more to promote concrete waterproofing, durability, and monitoring products.
Why am I on Wikipedia?
[edit]This user is a member of the Guild of Copy Editors. |
Now that you've gotten to know me a bit, I want to get more straight to the point about my presence here. While I do look forward to joining the Guild of Copy Editors and helping out now and then, my main purpose for being here is to propose a page or so about the company I work for. It's a conflict of interest, I know. But I strongly believe my company should have at least one page considering it invented a whole new category of concrete waterproofing. Still, I recognize that not all companies deserve a page, and even if they do, they need to be vetted properly. So I aim to go through the proper channels with a draft of my own creation that should follow a neutral point of view.
With that said, even if my goal doesn't work out, I still enjoy the idea of being part of the Wikipedia community, helping to enhance the pages that are already there and in need of some editorial love.
