Ongwediva is a town in the Oshana Region in the north of Namibia. It is the district capital of the Ongwediva electoral constituency. Ongwediva was developed in the 1960s by the occupying South African military forces during the Namibian War of Independence.[1] Most of the inhabitants speak Oshiwambo.
Ongwediva is also named as a constituency from the town to the nearby villages such as Omashekediva, Oikango Okahenge,Omaalala and Onamutayi where there is a constituency office.
Economy and Development
[edit]Ongwediva hosts an annual trade fair. A shopping mall is under construction.[2]
Education
[edit]There are currently only two high schools in Ongwediva, Mweshipandeka High School and Gabriel Taapopi HS. There are also five primary schools. The newly created Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Namibia is based in Ongwediva and it started its first official academic year in 2009. There is also a university for education.
