George Dewey Moore, Jr. was born to Gertrude and George Dewey Moore, Sr. Gertrude and George Senior, also had two other children, James (Jimmy) and Jeannette Amy Moore. George attended Boston University for four years where he majored in Business Administration. After college, he was married on August 29, 1954, to Eileen Mary St. Germaine, daughter of Leo and Sarah St. Germaine. Eileen had attended Burdette Business College and also studied Business. Also in 1954, George enlisted in the Army branch of the Armed Forces of the United States of America to which he served thirty years of service.
During his career, George served two tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. His first tour was 1962 through 1963. While the exact date of his second tour is not known for sure it is estimated that it was from about 1966 until somewhere around 1968. George served as an Infantry officer and received a Silver Star and a Purple Heart while active. George and his family were stationed in various interesting locations such as Germany, Turkey, and many stations throughout the United States during his duty.
While he was a Colonel on staff at the Pentagon in the 1980s, George Moore made mountainous strives towards peace efforts worldwide. For instance, he improved the United States relations with Egypt after the Israeli War of 1967 when Egypt sided more with communistic endorsers. Through his “backdoor” fact-finding paper, himself and other officers were able to offer Egypt five C131 Airplanes as a sign of trust and wanting to form a more stable bond. Here, he broke a law-jam to create better relations with more allies abroad.
In 1984, Colonel George Dewey Moore, Jr. retired from the Army at the age of 53. He lived in Arlington, Virginia until his passing in March 2000 at the age of 69. He is currently resting at Arlington National Cemetery with many other brave men and women who served their country. Colonel Moore is one of the reasons that this county is what it is today.
