Greetings. I go by Jimmy. I am from the UK, more specifically Southern England. I have a great interest in Politics, Languages & Linguistics, and varying interest in Religion, Geography, Sports and a few others.
My Contributions & Work
[edit]I am trying to work on articles from the south of England, in both my home county of Hampshire, and also neighbouring Wiltshire & Berkshire. Lots of my work is on settlements, especially in northern Hampshire.
Languages
[edit]I'm a native English speaker. I have studied French for a few years now and have achieved an intermediate level ( around A2-B1 in CEFR ). I also have been studying Mandarin Chinese but only speak it at a very basic level. I also know varying basic levels of: Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Polish, Czech, Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian, Greek, Hindi, Japanese, Finnish, Arabic and a few others.
Scripts
[edit]In terms of language writing systems, I am proficient in Latin ( IPA to an extent ), Cyrillic and Greek. I also know a fair amount of Hangul, Hiragana, Devanagari and Arabic. Currently I am learning Devanagari and Simplified Chinese. In the future I will want to study: Traditional Chinese, Katakana, Hiragana, Arabic, Malayalam, Kanji, Hanja and possibly some others like Tamazight, Tamil, Tibetan and Thai.
Linguistics
[edit]I self-study many aspects of linguistics, currently I am researching phonetics. I have researched language classifications for a fair while, language families I have a greater knowledge of compared to other language families: Germanic, Insular Celtic, Balto-Slavic
