The 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship was a motor racing championship for Formula One cars. It was the 78th running of the Formula One World Championship.[a] It was the sixth season of F1 22 Driver Career. It is recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the governing body of international motorsport, as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. The championship was contested over sixteen Grands Prix.
Drivers and teams competed for the titles of World Drivers' Champion and World Constructors' Champion, respectively. George Russell won his only World Drivers' Championship title at the United States Grand Prix while his team, RB, clinched the title at the Singapore Grand Prix, which was their first in history. Charles Leclerc the reigning Drivers' Champion, endured a tough campaign and finished sixth in the standings. Ferrari were the reigning Constructors' Champion.

Team changes
[edit]Audi entered the sport for the first time, having purchased the existing Sauber team in 2024. The team raced in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 seasons as Kick Sauber, using Ferrari engines, before becoming the Audi factory team for 2027.
Driver changes
[edit]Two-time Formula One runner-up Izz Ford left McLaren after two seasons to drive for the new Audi outfit. He is partnered by 2025-26 Formula E World Champion Jehan Daruvala, who joins Audi to embark on his first full season in Formula One. Ford and Daruvala replaced Zhou Guanyu and Lance Stroll, the latter leaving the sport altogether to race for AF Corse in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Zhou subsequently switched to RB, having spent five seasons at Sauber.
Pierre Gasly departed RB after eight seasons across two stints, and was set to move over to McLaren to replace the Audi-bound Ford. However, Gasly suffered serious injuries in a cycling accident just a week prior to pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit. As a result, McLaren Esports driver Yasar Atiyeh temporarily replaced Gasly until he was fit enough to drive.
Dan Ticktum left Aston Martin after a sole season to return to Mercedes, a team he previously drove during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He replaced Felipe Drugovich, who moved back to Aston Martin having driven for the team during the final eight Grand Prixs in 2025.
Mid-season changes
[edit]Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly announced his full recovery from the injuries sustained in the pre-season cycling accident. Consequently, he rejoined McLaren, replacing temporary stand-in Yasar Atiyeh.
Calendar
[edit]The 2027 calendar consisted of sixteen events. The Emilia Romagna, Austrian and São Paulo Grands Prix featured the sprint format.

[edit]Scoring system
[edit]Points were awarded to the top ten classified drivers, the driver who set the fastest lap during the Grand Prix (only if one of the top ten), and the top eight of the sprint.[f] In the case of a tie on points a countback system was used where the driver with the most Grand Prix wins was ranked higher. If the number of wins was identical then the number of second places was considered, and so on. The points were awarded for every race using the following system.
Position | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th | 7th | 8th | 9th | 10th | FL |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Race | 25 | 18 | 15 | 12 | 10 | 8 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
Sprint | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
