History
[edit]In 1988, Dieter Beer, a German businessman, partnered with Dr. Gustavo Bounous MD, (FRCSC), and a team of medical researchers from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and founded Immunotec Research Corporation. He was reviving his family’s deep-rooted belief in a natural approach to health maintenance. Mr. Beer provided the financial resources necessary for the production and patenting of Immunocal®, a dietary protein source that boosts the immune system. He financed the clinical trials that confirmed its health-promoting properties. In 1996, Mr. Beer joined forces with Chuck Roberts and John Molson, co-owners of Evergreen Products Ltd, a company with ten years expertise in research on health-promoting products and a strong marketing background to form Immunotec Research Ltd. On January 23, 2007, the TSX Venture Exchange authorized the commencement of share trading under the name of Immunotec Inc.
The Company is incorporated under the Canada Business Corporations Act and is engaged primarily in the development and marketing of quality, natural health products, dietary supplements, food, vitamins and personal care products, some of which are manufactured on its behalf by third parties. The products are primarily distributed and sold in Canada, United States and Mexico through a network marketing system. The Company operates from a 37,000 square foot facility located in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Canada, as well as a manufacturing facility in Blainville, Quebec, Canada and a distribution center located in Swanton, Vermont, USA.
Upon commencing its operations in 1996, the Company made a strategic decision to market its products, of which the core product is Immunocal® , through a direct-selling/network marketing system, being a system in which distributors sell products directly to customers and sponsor other individuals as distributors. Distributors derive compensation both from the direct sales of products and from sales volume generated by sponsored distributors. Network marketing involves person-to-person communication and training with respect to the products and the system. This feature makes network marketing a more effective means of marketing its products than in-store retail sales.
Science
[edit]Nutritionals based on science. This is the philosophy that Dr. Gustavo Bounous MD, (FRCSC), has held as a medical doctor, researcher, and creator of Immunocal. While his peers were focused on the benefits pharmaceutical drugs had on the ill, Dr. Bounous was not convinced that that is the best way. He believed that nature holds many secrets for optimal health, secrets that are hidden and waiting to be discovered by anyone willing to put in the time and effort necessary to uncover them.
From the very beginning, Immunotec has been in a class of its own. With a flagship product that has been awarded many "method of use" patents, is listed in the Physicians’ Desk Reference, and is sold as a pharmaceutical product in 26 countries around the world.
At the beginning of the 70’s, under the direction of Gustavo Bounous, MD, (FRCSC), a team of researchers from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University (Canada), was studying proteins of animal and vegetable origins in order to feed the patients with an elemental diet that would allow them to reduce their stay in hospital. Since 1978, their studies had been focusing on whey proteins. This work led to the surprising discovery that a specific undenatured whey protein concentrate helped to sustain optimal glutathione levels, high immunological reactivity and ant carcinogenic activity. Subsequent identification of the active ingredients present in this protein mixture led in 1993 to the production of the high-quality bioactive protein that was given the name Immunocal.
This research was supported by the Medical Research Council of Canada and the National Institutes of Health in the United States. The observed effects of Immunocal which have been discovered at McGill University, have been validated by numerous independent research centers worldwide, notable in Germany, Japan, Australia, France, United States and in Nova Scotia (Canada).
