When I started exploring the Internet, after getting my first computer, ICQ was the chat messenger of choice. The username you were assigned was directly related to when you signed up for it, and all were assigned in numerical order, starting at 10 000. The lower you were to the original number, the closer you were to having more "senority", not that it meant anything. By the time I signed, up the number was up to 8189720. I means that I was the 8179720th person to sign up to ICQ, and as of then I have began using that number as my user name. Although ICQ was taken over by AOL, the numerical sequence remains. Whether it means anything anymore is another thing.
