BSFFA, or the Beloit Science Fiction & Fantasy Association, is a Beloit College student organization that provides science fiction, fantasy, LARP and gaming entertainment to the campus community. It offer a wide range of activities, from movie marathons to traditional roleplaying.[1] The club has an annual budget of $1200.[2]
Main Activities
[edit]Nerf/Boffer[3] Boffer is the practice of running around and hitting others with foam swords. This is a weekly event in BSFFA during the warmer months. There are Boffer construction sessions and club boffers to borrow. Nerf is Boffer's winter component. BSFFAs invade the Pearsons building and spend several hours ducking, weaving and firing nerf guns at each other.
Dance Dance Revolution[4] Imported from Japan, DDR is a video game played on pads set on the floor. The player chooses a song and 'dances' out the steps on the pad. Newbies are welcomed, as are experienced players. This is also a weekly event.
Table Top RPGs[5] Role playing games make up a large part social life in BSFFA, although not required. Games range from D&D to White Wolf (Vampire: the Requiem, Changeling: the Lost, etc), as well as lesser known games such as Shadow Nations. Most first semester games save spaces for first-years, especially people who have never been in games before.
LARP[6] Live Action Roleplaying is is a combination of improvisation and storytelling where players act out the actions of their character rather than describing them.
Magic the Gathering[7] Magic the Gathering is a collectible card game created by mathematics professor Richard Garfield and introduced in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast. A handful of BSFFA Magic play a weekly game.
Board Games Night[8] Another weekly event, board games include games such as Arkham Horror, Settlers of Catan, Apples to Apples, Munchkin, Risk and others.
