About me

Hello, I'm Marko Viitanen and I'm a PhD student at Tampere University in Tampere, Finland, which is also my hometown.

I have worked extensively on the development of video compression software. My notable projects include:

Kvazaar: An open-source HEVC encoder which I have been the main developer of. Kvazaar is known for its efficient execution of the HEVC standard.
uvg266: A branched version of Kvazaar which is converted to utilize VVC video standard, with most of the optimizations remaining and added tools for efficient compression.
