A large tornado started in Chambers County and traversed across southern Jefferson County before entering the southern portions of McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge where high-end EF3 damage was inflicted to two large single-story buildings that were almost completely destroyed. Other buildings nearby had their roofs removed and demolished at EF2 intensity. The tornado then passed just south of Port Arthur, entering Sabine Lake as a large waterspout before crossing into Louisiana. Only the Jefferson County portion of the track has been surveyed, as a much longer track is possible.[2][3][1]
EF1 | E of Bayou Chicot to NW of Lebeau | St. Landry, Evangeline | LA | 30°51′N 92°16′W / 30.85°N 92.26°W | 23:06–23:18 | 15.6 mi (25.1 km) | 200 yd (180 m)
The tornado started in the small community of St. Landry where it damaged and snapped several hardwood trees. The tornado then quickly reached peak intensity as it crossed into the parish of St. Landry near the community of Augusta where it snapped several cedar trees with winds of at least 100 miles per hour (160 km/h).[3] The National Weather Service office in Lake Charles noted that a TDS was seen at this time. The tornado then struck the community of St. Louis, where it damaged power lines. The tornado then began to weaken as it damaged trees near the communities of Whiteville, Dubuisson, and Rosa. The tornado dissipated as it crossed US 71.[3][4]
EF1 | Athens | Limestone | AL | 34°46′31″N 86°58′42″W / 34.7753°N 86.9782°W | 05:15–05:20 | 3.87 mi (6.23 km) | 160 yd (150 m)
The tornado began in southern Athens where it damaged large softwood trees and snapped the trunks of large hardwood trees. The tornado continued into Athens, crossing US 72, after which it snapped several wooden electric poles and other softwood trees along residential streets. It then caused high-end EF1 damage to the CEI Bookstore, collapsing the roof. Several trees and electrical poles were snapped or uprooted around the bookstore and several other nearby buildings sustained damage. Just west of Athens State University, the tornado reached its peak intensity and destroyed a brick warehouse building, with winds of at least 110 miles per hour (180 km/h). Several other buildings nearby sustained various degrees of damage as well. Continuing through Athens, the tornado crossed railroad tracks and debris from the town was thrown "several hundred yards" along the tracks.[3][5] The tornado continued snapping branches from trees as it weakened while passing through the rest of Athens before dissipating near the Athens Utilities building.[3][6][7][8][9]
