I live in Florida and am retired.
I think I can give some idea of who I am by listing famous people that I admire, and that I think I would have liked to have been friends with: Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Samuel Clemens, Harry Truman, Steve Allen, Jimmy Carter, Richard Feynman, Steven Jay Gould, and James Randi, among others. (I've never met any of these people, but I would have loved the opportunity to talk with them. I do realize that they are all white American males, and most of them are dead, so make of that what you will.)
I have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, but have never worked in the field. I also have a B.S. in Computer Systems, and have worked with computers for more than 20 years, including ten years administering Novell NetWare networks. I served for five years as a volunteer SysOp on the Novell Product Support Forums. At various points in my life I have also earned a living (not counting student and summer jobs) as a bus station ticket agent, a cabinet maker, a campus cop, a soldier, a planner, an "internal compliance officer", a middle-manager, a computer programmer, a teacher, a school crossing guard, and a library page and assistant.
