Good Mythical Morning, also called GMM, is an American comedy and talk morning television show that airs on YouTube. The program debuted on January 9, 2012. It was the third show that aired on what is now the Good Mythical Morning channel. Originally a one weekday program, it expanded to include Good Mythical MORE, the show after the show in 2013. The program broadcast expanded to include Good Mythical Crew in 2016.
GMM's dominance was virtually unchallenged by other channels as it was becoming one of the top YouTube channels in 2014.[1] GMM has continued to gain success and currently is the 61st most subscribed YouTube channel worldwide.[2]
History
[edit]The shows first broadcast aired on January 09, 2012. It was the brainchild of Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal III who were then the creators of Good Morning Chia Lincoln which aired forty episodes from January to February 2011.[3] Good Morning Chia Lincoln was the first program that Rhett & Link series created together, that had a set broadcasting schedule. The program blended news headlines, personal experiences, and other light news and gimmicks. The series ended on February 28, and was not returned due to the chia pet dying.[4]
When Good Mythical Morning debuted, it was welcomed with great success, largely due to their multiple viral videos.[5] The series continued the same format as GMCL, but added a new segment at the end of the show called "Wheel of Mythically".[6] This new segment would contain suggestions from fans on how they should end the show, usually with a brief improvised scene. Another segment which ran until season three was "Lets talk about that" in which included a video from a fan, but in September 2013 it was changed to the end of the show before the Wheel of Mythically segment where a fan states "I am so and so from place, and it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythically."[7] The new opening segment was changed to Rhett or Link saying "Lets talk about that".

Production
[edit]On December 12, 2011, it was announced that Rhett and Link would launch their new series titled Good Mythical Morning through their self titled YouTube channel.[8] The new series would begin broadcasting January 09, 2012 in Los Angeles.[9]
McLaughlin and Neal explicitly stated that GMM would be a spot where people can tune in and have a little laugh, "Like a morning show for the internet".[10] Airings would be held on weekdays at 6:00 a.m. EST, which allows viewers to watch the show any time making it a "Mythical Morning".[11]
