Article Evaluation: New Zealand

There are several areas that I think I would like to expand on. There is a small paragraph on population geography where there is some basic information but nothing beyond where most people live. I would like to find some more information on population pyramid and the density structure. Does the small total population or it being a country of islands affect the population pyramid and density? Also, look at how the population has evolved through time and where people have migrated. Has there been an immigration period and where have people come from. Also the wealth of people and the economy of the country through time and in different areas of the country. What wars have taken place in NZ or any the government has gotten involved or why not if they haven't. Didn't see any detailed information on geography of religion and architecture. The article does seem fairly neutral which is good. There may need to be citations for the information in the first paragraph of the article. The rest of the article seems to be fairly well cited.

There are sections on population and political geography but nothing on cultural geography which we just studied so we should research that area.

Additional Information on artifacts, languages, religion and sacred places needed.

In the section of Mountains, volcanoes and glaciers it mentions there are 18 peaks over 9800ft in the Southern Alps that stretch down the South island. Then says that the closest mountains surpassing it in elevation like is not in Australia but in New Guinea and Antarctica. I would leave out Australia since this article isn't referring to it and also be more specific of what the tallest peak is instead of being so general.

Economic Geography

New Zealand has gone from an agrarian to a developed, industrial country in the last 40 years with an improving capital GDP which was 48th in the world, $38,900 (2017). The unemployment rate is fairly low at 4.9% (2017), a .2% drop from the previous year compared to the U.S. at 4.4% (2017). Services was by far the highest percentage of the GDP at 69.9% in 2017 followed by industry at 26.2% and agriculture 3.9% representing a move away from an agrarian economy. Imports and exports were very similar in world ranking at 58 and 55 respectively both increasing from the previous year. Major imports were petroleum and products, mechanical machinery, vehicles and parts, electrical machinery and textiles with exports being dairy products, meat and edible offal, logs and wood articles, fruit, crude oil and wine. China, Australia, U.S. and Japan being the largest 4 trading partners in both exports and imports.

Population Geography

New Zealand is the 126th most populated country in the world with approximately 4.76 million people (2018). It's population pyramid resembles one that of a developed country with the largest percentage of males being in the 45 to 54 range with the largest percentage females being in the 45 to 49 range. It has a population growth rate of 0.79% (2017) making it the 132nd fasted growing country in the world. It's growth rate has been in decline since 2005, thus, representing one that of a developed country.

Article Evaluation: Environmental science

The article is short and lacks information. There is information that hasn't been cited so I don't know where the facts come from, ie, in the second paragraph, it gives a general description of environmental studies and environmental engineering but doesn't support it with a citation. The tone at times is informal, such as, in the first sentence of the third paragraph where the word like is used. There was a good amount of links used in the article which is good. It is of interest to several Wiki projects which are all C-class projects. There is a lot of activity on the talk page but much of it is very negative where very demeaning and not intended to simply help. Some opinion was used in the article, ie, in paragraph four and the author gives a viewpoint in using the words could be several times. Overall the article doesn't talk about the topic in the way we have discussed in class. Needs a lot of work but with more positive contributors.
