September Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Basque Portal?

[edit]

Kaixo, I'm contacting you because you figure in Category:User eu, meaning that you speak some Basque. You must therefore be Basque yourself or have an intense connection with the Basque Country.

I am thinking that maybe was a good idea to create a Portal (or maybe a Wikiproject? or both?) on the Basque theme but I feel such kind of project requires more than just one person.

If you are interested, please comment in my talk page.

Enjoy, --Sugaar 10:35, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

WikiProject Former Countries

[edit]

I would like to invite you back to WikiProject Former countries. You were previously a member of its former incarnation WP Historical States. The objective of this project is still to improve the content and accessibility of articles on former countries. A taskforce for the states of the Holy Roman Empire has also been started and the child project on Prussia has also been revived. This restart is still in its early days but it would be great to have you back. - 52 Pickup 18:51, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Louis Penfield House

[edit]

Nice work on Louis Penfield House. Hey, it's a Wright house that I could comfortably fit in! I was wondering if you recall your source for the statment of the cost of the restoration being $10,000? I used to live in the Cleveland area, and I could have sworn that I read something (perhaps in Timeline?) listing the cost as considerably more. $20,000 sticks in my mind, but I could be completely wrong. Image:Virgincola.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Virgincola.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 22:12, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

You're... leaving?

[edit]

Sorry to hear that you're leaving Wikipedia. The dissolution of Esperanza hurt everybody involved, not just you and me. We are all injured in terms of our sense of community and our editcount.

Things might change. For several times I've left Wikipedia but at last come back; because this "conservatory of knowledge" has so many defects that, being a scientist (or just a civilized person, anyways), I can't stand from correcting them wherever I could.

Really, not having a community of partners on Wikipedia doesn't matter. I don't have strong ones. The closest are Firsfron and Aili, which I contact them only, say, once a week or so at most.

Maybe you'll change your mind in the future =] Just focus on anything you feel comfortable in life and enjoy it. Wikipedia shouldn't be everything. We all welcome you to come back in the future.

Regards, --Deryck C. 10:19, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

It can be really tough, when you're not feeling good about Wikipedia anymore. It totally makes sense that when something is no longer fun, one wouldn't want to spend time with it. If you do leave, I hope you have a lovely time elsewhere, but you might consider taking a break at first, and seeing how you feel when you come back. If you still feel like it's not worth it to be here, then you know what to do, but you might also be refreshed by some time away, and feel better about the encyclopedia. Regardless, I hope all goes well. -- Natalya 17:49, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Tim, I saw your message on the Stress alerts page, and I thought I'd share my thoughts. Yes, now that Esperanza is gone, there isn't a central location for community, but I find that the community spirit still exists in a more diffuse form, centered around articles, Wikiprojects, and between users with shared interests. If you're seeking a sense of community, I suggest finding some topic that deeply interests you, and start working on articles within that topic, including interacting with users on related talk pages. You'd be surprised how quickly you rekindle that community spirit in this way.
I can understand that you would want to leave if Wikipedia is only becoming a source of stress for you. Like Natalya, I suggest taking a break if my earlier ideas don't work out for you. I'm sure that you would be welcome to return if you take a short break, or even a long one. If you do choose to leave, I wish you well. --Kyoko 19:07, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I read your note on the Stres Alert page. I've left and come back. My involvement has varied. Being part of Wiki doesn't have to be a big commitment. Just do what you want to do now and again. And if you ever want a chat and a nice cup of tea, then pop on over to my talk page. And bring some biscuits! Warm regards SilkTork 19:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Finally getting back to you. I've been kind of antisocial online too (that is, I've spent too much time working on the lonelygirl15 wiki) and haven't logged into Wikipedia for a while. I saw your message then, and I am still interested in the project. If you're still active or are staying inactive, message me. --silverBULLET(x3) 21:04, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Esperanza didn't die, it was simply absorbed

[edit]

Most of the people from Esperanza are still here, as are most of the departments that were under the Esperanza umbrella.

If you miss the clique of folks who hung out and chatted there, you can endeavor to reunite them in an IRC chat room, or even on your own user talk page.

Or just join a new clique. Esperanza was a fun project, but Wikipedia is HUGE and has no scarcity of fun projects, nor does it lack fun people to collaborate with.

If you need help finding a fun project (not necessarily a WikiProject), let me know.

The Transhumanist    22:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't join cliques easily. I don't really like IRC since it leaves one's IP address exposed... I think I've functionally abandoned Wikipedia as a new content editor. Some things just can't be helped. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 04:46, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Danny Sveinson

[edit]

I've nominated Danny Sveinson, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Danny Sveinson satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danny Sveinson (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Danny Sveinson during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Spartaz Humbug! 07:35, 6 July 2007 (UTC) annoying TW canned warning removed. The article was recreated after being deleted at VFD and shouldn't be recreated unless endorsed by DRV. The debate there petered out and it was recreated instead. By rights the article falls to be speedied as a recreation of a V/AFD deleted article but this one is significantly better then the version deleted at VFD. I have therefore sent it to AFD for further discussion. Spartaz Humbug! 09:21, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Generally, it's not such a good idea to self-identify children (there was a big case on this; see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Protecting children's privacy). In fact, the Wikipedia Youth Association was deleted thereafter. Hopefully you take this into consideration. Sr13 07:53, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Little context in NFL Properties

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on NFL Properties, by AA (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because NFL Properties is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting NFL Properties, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Junak symbol.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Junak symbol.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:04, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Henry Hill (artist)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Henry Hill (artist), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. II | (t - c) 09:19, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. If you contest the proposed deletion, feel free to take off the tag. If you do, I can't put it back. If you don't, he may be deleted. II | (t - c) 18:35, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm confused; you've created a non-article with a template related to deletion review. I'm going to delete it for now; if the consensus at Deletion Review is that it should be recreated, an administrator will recreate the page as it existed, and there'll be no need for anyone to rewrite it from scratch. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 02:07, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of The Rocket Summer

[edit]

A tag has been placed on The Rocket Summer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Horselover Frost (talk) 03:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
