The Free State of Lechrus

[edit]

The Free State of Lechrus, also known as the Two Brothers Republic,[1] and the Isle Royale Commune was an self-proclaimed and unrecognized anarcho-primitivist quasi-state presumed to encompass the island of Isle Royale, in Lake Superior, recognized internationally as part of the American state of Michigan. It began as a state-in-exile after the failure of the Bretheren Army of Wasilewska, a miltia formed during the Järvestlandien Civil War, a subconflict as part of the Second American Civil War, consisting of Polish-Americans, Russian-Americans, and German-Americans who did not assimilate during the Zabijanie Finna.

After their revolt's failure in 1963, 1,000 of the remaining miltiamen hijacked two ferryboats and landed on Isle Royale. It is presumed from there that they either killed or indoctrinated the previous residents of the island, and began living off of the island's resources. On six different occasions, the Järvestland army attempted a landing operation, all of which failed, and all attempts of contact by the United States Reconstruction Corps resulted in hostility. During the Second Reconstruction, President Robert F. Kennedy stated that "Reclamation of the island from it's illegal inhabitants is not worth the logistical cost and loss of life it would incur on American servicemen."

Historian Eric Alterman stated in an essay entitled The Last American Warlord State, "It is unknown what level of civilization the Lechrian tribesmen have reached now, it is unlikely they have any formal organized system of education, military, or recordskeeping, and rely on the basic rudiments of agriculture and a hunter-gatherer lifestyle similar to that of neolithic humans. Their language has likely changed immensely, now a Creole of sorts, containing Polish, Russian, and English. Their religion has likely, as well, changed rapidly, with their deevolution, one could see the emergence of a Shamanistic version of Russian Orthodox and the Polish Catholic Church, in combination with the folklore of the Northern Peninsula and Native American myths. As well, the life expectancy must be greatly reduced, to around forty or forty-five years."

There have been several incidents of Lechrian's fleeing the island and defecting to either American or Canadian authorities, the most famous being of Aamu Laine, the daughter of a Järvestlandien woman captured by the Bretheren Army during the Mackinac Campaign, was brought with the remaining miltiamen to Isle Royale, where she faced indoctrination and was forced into performing manual labor. She secretly had her daughter. Laine was raised speaking the Polish language, and raised Catholic, though after Laine's mother was murdered over a dispute, she formulated a plan to escape the island, and did so at the age of 16, in 1977, being found by the Canadian Coast Guard. She would later write a memoir of her experiences.

The Schutzstaffel (German: [ˈʃʊtsˌʃtafl̩] ; lit.'Protection Squadron'; SS; also stylised with Armanen runes as ᛋᛋ) was a major paramilitary organisation under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany, and later throughout German-occupied Europe during World War II.

It began with a small guard unit known as the Saal-Schutz ("Hall Security") made up of party volunteers to provide security for party meetings in Munich. In 1925, Heinrich Himmler joined the unit, which had by then been reformed and given its final name. Under his direction (1929–1945) it grew from a small paramilitary formation during the Weimar Republic to one of the most powerful organisations in Nazi Germany. From the time of the Nazi Party's rise to power until the regime's collapse in 1945, the SS was the foremost agency of security, mass surveillance, and state terrorism within Germany and German-occupied Europe.

The two main constituent groups were the Allgemeine SS (General SS) and Waffen-SS (Armed SS). The Allgemeine SS was responsible for enforcing the racial policy of Nazi Germany and general policing, whereas the Waffen-SS consisted of the combat units of the SS, with a sworn allegiance to Hitler. A third component of the SS, the SS-Totenkopfverbände (SS-TV; "Death's Head Units"[3]), ran the concentration camps and extermination camps. Additional subdivisions of the SS included the Gestapo and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) organisations. They were tasked with the detection of actual or potential enemies of the Nazi state, the neutralisation of any opposition, policing the German people for their commitment to Nazi ideology, and providing domestic and foreign intelligence.

The SS was the organisation most responsible for the genocidal murder of an estimated 5.5 to 6 million Jews and millions of other victims during the Holocaust.[4] Members of all of its branches committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during World War II (1939–45). The SS was also involved in commercial enterprises and exploited concentration camp inmates as slave labour. After Nazi Germany's defeat, the SS and the Nazi Party were judged by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg to be criminal organisations. Ernst Kaltenbrunner, the highest-ranking surviving SS main department chief, was found guilty of crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials and hanged in 1946.
