Spheroolithus irenensis is an oospecies of dinosaur egg whose classification has a somewhat confused history, as it is sometimes considered to be the sole oospecies of its own oogenus, Paraspheroolithus.[1]
Description
[edit]Paraspheroolithus is separated from Spheroolithus because its eggs are more ellipsoidal, whereas Spheroolithus eggs are spherical. Many authors do not consider this sufficient basis to separate oogenera, because even within a single clutch, the elongation index of eggs can vary significantly.[2]
