Amadou RAIMI born in 1949 in Porto-Novo in Benin and graduated from the Essec, is a company leader. He presided Deloitte France Board, one of the largest international audit firms.[1]

Member of the Deloitte Audit Management Committee France and supervisor of the auditing department dedicated to customers from 1991 to 1997, he will have assessed and advised several French and international companies. Large groups such as Alstom, Electricité de France (EDF), Renault/Nissan, Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR) have benefited from his expertise.

The 14th July 2009, Amadou RAIMI has been elevated to the rank of the legion of honor.[2]

Formation

Amadou Raimi, born in Porto-Novo (Benin), married and father de three children, belongs to a generation of Africans who completed their primary and secondary education in Africa, and pursued their studies in Europa.

After completing his primary and secondary education at the lycée Victor Ballot in Porto-Novo, and the baccalaureate in 1970 at the collège Bessieux in Libreville (Gabon), Amadou Raimi continued his studies in France.

He applied at the ESSEC, one of the most prestigious business schools in France, and has been graduated in 1976. He turned towards the Audit sector, because of an affinity and the professional development opportunities offered by this sector. He joined Deloitte France, and passed the statutory auditor and chattered accountant exams; and gradually climbed the ladder to become a Partner with an already intense interest for client service.

Professional career

The professional career of Amadou RAIMI took him very quickly to the UK, under the exchange program with Deloitte UK. This first international experience will be followed by an other assignment outside France, in Benin, his native country, where from 1985 to 1987, he worked as a general consultant leading the public companies rehabilitation project which covers more than 50 companies. One of the key objectives was to launch studies in order to decide whether these companies are viable or not, to recommend, decide and implement appropriate actions: restructuring, privatization or liquidation.

As a member of the Deloitte France Audit Management Committee, supervisor of the audit department devoted to multinational clients from 1991 to 1997, Amadou Raimi will lead the audit and consulting responsibilities for several French and international groups such as Mitsubishi, General Motors, Renault, Nissan, Alstom, PPR, Procter & Gamble, EDF etc. This responsibility covers among others:

  • Human resources issues
  • The appropriate staffing of these multinational companies operating in several countries
  • The risk management
  • The ethical, integrity and independence issues
  • The coordination of the referred out work to the Deloitte network
  • The review of the reporting of our comments to the top executives of these companies

Elected, after competition, Chairman of the Deloitte France Board of Directors in 2004 by his Partners. This was the first time, not just for this Beninese but also for his cabinet because he is the only black African of the privileged circle of Deloitte France Partners. His term of office will be renewed in 2008, illustrating a confidence and expertise acknowledged by his peers. At the same time, he continued businesses in their development projects and led change management engagements for public companies in both France and abroad. He has for several years assumed responsibility as Global Deloitte Director. He was selected in that period to co-chair the Steering Committee in charge for the preparation of the global Business Strategy for the Deloitte organization. Amadou Raimi was appointed vice-Chairman of Global Deloitte by his peers in June 2007 and chairs the CEO Evaluation and Remuneration Committee. The Deloitte Global Board is composed of some 30 members from different nationalities. The success of this Board is due to his director's sensitivity to issues relating to team building, cultural diversity, ability to understand complex issues, to articulate key messages and if needs be to take tough decisions.

Aware that the development of emerging markets is based mainly on education, training and transfer of expertise; he contributed since 2004, to the development or reinforcement of Deloitte France implantation in francophone Africa : Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Benin, Gabon, Congo etc. Today Amadou RAIMI energy is focused on Africa with the company « Croissance Sud Conseils » that he heads and which aims to provide all sort of advices to Sub-Saharan African companies and foreign companies wishing to invest in Africa.

Because of his origin and his background, Amadou Raimi mobilized with others, Deloitte on « Diversity » theme. He organized and chaired several events about this theme. His personal commitment and the Deloitte positioning on this topic are recognized by the place. In partnership with l’Oréal and Air France, he finally contributed to the establishment of the « Chaire Diversité et Performance » at the ESSEC. He participated in the work of the IFA, "Institut Français des Administrateurs", about « the diversity in the Boards of Directors ».

Amadou Raimi is currently director of :

  • « IMS-Entreprendre pour la Cité », a non-profit organization (France)
  • « Citizen Capital », a fund which escorts entrepreneurs from sensitive areas (France)
  • I&P Developpement, a 10 year-old social venture capital company financing and supporting the growth of SMEs and Micro Finance Institution in sub-Saharan Africa (France-Afrique)
  • Atlas Mara, a company whose the ambition is to mobilize the best expertise and the necessary resources to create a financial group of senior in sub-Saharan Africa
  • BGFI, a commercial bank in Benin.
