[edit]Paid editing position statement
[edit]- The paid service that I provide is simply a writing service that conforms to the Wikipedia format, policies and guidelines. My service is much like a person offering WordPerfect writing services in a legal-services environment.
- I do not guarantee that the client, or subject, is notable enough to sustain a Wikipedia article and I decline all "must publish" agreements.
- In some cases, the client agrees with my evaluation that they are not notable enough yet. Occasionally, I have been contracted to create offline articles in anticipation of press-coverage that will establish notability and archive the subject's existing press-coverage.
- Most people do not have the time or inclination to learn the Manual of Style, and other guidelines and policies, just to create or contribute a single article. Additionally, writing one's own biography for the Wikipedia is highly discouraged. (Alternately, I am often contracted to improve existing articles where notability has already been established and volunteer efforts have fallen short.)
- My writing service is not in conflict with the goals of the Wikipedia, my articles cover notable creators and their works, these are articles that the Wikipedia wants and I discourage the client from publishing if they do not have the required references.
- Again, I am paid to write, not to publish.
- This is my only account, used for volunteer and paid editing.
Coexistence proposal
[edit]During the ToU discussions concerning paid editing disclosure, I noted that the disclosure policy (talk page, user page, edit summary) does nothing to inform the consumer (casual reader) that a passage in an article is a paid edit, compliant with the ToU or not. Consumers are unlikely to inspect edit summaries, talk pages and user pages. The current WP:DISCLOSEPAY diff ultimately only serves to notify other editors and misses the stated purpose for disclosure.

The FTC’s guide Dot Com Disclosures specifies that “disclosures must be communicated effectively so that consumers are likely to notice and understand them in connection with the representations that the disclosures modify.” For state law implications, see, e.g., N.Y. Attorney General’s 2013 investigation regarding companies engaging in astroturfing.[1]

I suggested creating a new template by modifying the Template:Hilite for paid editors to disclose in the body of article, the "expiration" parameter would be set for one year (tbd) from the date of the edit. (The background color would be determined by consensus.)
- Example background 1 Sample text contributed by paid editor.
- Example background 2 Sample text contributed by paid editor.
Since disclosing to the reader is the primary goal of the paid-edit policy, and such a template would allow automation of patrolling paid edits, and non-controversial edit background-color would expire automatically after a specified time.
Paid editing disclosure
[edit]Concerning recent developments concerning Paid editing (policy) of June 2014.
I have elected to use the Talk page method for paid-editing disclosure on articles that I create and any edits to other articles (Wiki - markup etc.) are disclosed in the summary line.
In addition to voluntary editing, I take paid-editing assignments, but more often than not, I decline these assignments when the subject's notability or motives come into question. I have also discovered unflattering press during the research phase, advised the (otherwise notable) subject of the possible consequences and the decision(s) has been made to discontinue the project(s).
On the paid articles that I do accept, my monetary involvement begins and ends with the creation of an article that describes the subject in neutral-terms and in a flat technical writing format. Still, the perception from many Wikipedia editors on what "appears" to be advertising can be subjective, so I am faced with defending some articles (unpaid) long after my relationship with the subject has concluded.
If you and I are engaged in an article's talk page discussion. Please understand that I am not trying to be disruptive and that my paid relationship with the subject has generally concluded. A considerable amount of research may have gone into the article, so I do follow these articles (WP:Stewardship), I am not resistant to constructive edits, but let's take them to the talk page first, there may be reasons why something is written the way it is.
Paid clients
[edit]I also place template:Paid article on the relevant article's talk pages, ancillary edits to related articles will be noted in the edit summary.

Mitchell Kriegman an Emmy award winning writer and producer. I will be cleaning up his existing article, adding references and listing accomplishments. I already know of one associated article that may take some noncontroversial edits, there may be others. OniracomA series of composition albums and associated ecology festival, upcoming article Solutions for Dreamers.
RPGpublicityContentBridge a well established software system focusing on digital-media distribution. An AfD discussion resulted in an article merge under a new article for the holding company GoDigital Media Group there are some related articles that will need to be updated along the way.
Note The RPGpublicity clients are in very much in acquisitions and mergers mode, trivial edits will be disclosed in edit summaries. Edits that may be contentious will be discussed on talk pages. There are too many unpaid, trivial edits to related articles to maintain a list of here. ContentBridge is the client, but an AfD discussion with a result decision to merge into GoDigital Media Group has widened the scope to sister firms that I do not have a relationship with.
