Types of tax relating to consumables - fat sugar soda alcohol

[edit]

@122.162.49.189: has added soda and fat as types of tax. These to me seem specific examples of tax to discourage unhealthy activities, similar Alcohol and Tobacco taxes. Not sure how to group these. Maybe as steering tax, as also helpfully added by 122.162.49.189. What do people think? Jonpatterns (talk) 19:48, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. We can't have a separate entry in this template for every product / resource / service that was ever taxed. As much as I'd like to draw extra traffic to articles like Resm-i arusane (bride tax) or Rav akçesi (rabbi tax) or Adet-i ağnam (sheep tax), the template would become completely unmanageable. We should focus on linking more general articles about types of taxes, general principles of taxation, and so on. bobrayner (talk) 21:33, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Those are interesting examples. I've found the page List of Taxes. Will transfer the taxes Fat and Soda to this list. It may be possible to find somewhere for these on the template, however they are specific not a general type. Jonpatterns (talk) 10:02, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agree as well. Basically an excise tax, so I wouldn't include any specific sub-category of tax on this template. Morphh (talk) 14:07, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done, adding to List of taxes. Incidentally a should be there be a link to this list from the template?Jonpatterns (talk) 15:32, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We could probably link "Type" to the List of taxes article, since I don't believe we have specific article about types of taxes. Morphh (talk) 16:00, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The List of taxes could use some work, but that will have to be for another day. Jonpatterns (talk) 16:10, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some 'types' of tax in italics

[edit]

Is there a reason why some 'types' of tax are in italics, for example Georgist and Pigovian. Jonpatterns (talk) 19:53, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tax Evasion in the United States (International)

[edit]

Upon noticing subsection Tax noncompliance; Tax Evasion in the United States seems to involve numerous international incidents unmentioned. However, it seems definitions may fit the description, and being international, may not fit the exact criterion of "Tax Evasion in the United States." So, I am asking the community for input as to where incidents, citing:

  • Liechtenstein[1]

The U.S. began a crackdown on Swiss banking secrecy in 2008, when the IRS issued a summons for information from UBS AG, Switzerland’s largest bank. UBS had to pay a $780 million fine and hand over details on 4,700 accounts held by U.S. citizens in 2009 to settle proceedings that could have led to the loss of the bank’s operating license in the U.S.

To where do such taxation areas truly belong if added? Thanks in advance! Twillisjr (talk) 18:43, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update to template

[edit]

Updated the noncompliance section for corporate issues, BEPS, OFCs and Conduits and Sinks (all of which have good wiki articles). Updated the international section for the EU CCCTB (also a large wiki article). Finally, added a section on tax researchers, for which there are also good wiki articles, split into academic and tax advocacy groups. Finally, put the distribution section as a sub-section under economics, which I think makes more sense. Britishfinance (talk) 11:03, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
