Caretakers
[edit]If Willie McAndrew is included, should more recent caretaker mangers be added (Eg Wallace, Dodds and Young?) Dunarc (talk) 18:51, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
- It was me that added McAndrew, although in principle I'd prefer to exclude caretakers in most instances. I don't think there's any general consensus as to whether they should be included or not — some clubs' templates do, some don't. Where they are used, I think the templates start to get clogged up with relatively insignificant instances of coaching staff who happened to take over for a few days, or whatever. However, I personally make exceptions where appointments have been of a more "semi-permanent" basis, and am guided by either the clubs themselves or reliable sources including them in lists of managers (You can see an example of my thinking on Template talk:Derby County F.C. managers). In this case, McAndrew was in charge of the team for a substantial period (two months) and is included in the list of managers in Dundee United: The Official Centenary History book by Rundo & Watson, whereas guys like Wallace and Dodds who took over for a game or two aren't. So that's why I support the current version. Jellyman (talk) 10:03, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- That seems perfectly fair and logical. Thanks Dunarc (talk) 15:55, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
