This external link template generates an external link from the "External links" section of a Wikipedia article of a US tax-exempt organization to the Internal Revenue Service Form 990s ("Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax"), as archived in the Nonprofit Explorer project of ProPublica.
Options
[edit]The first positional parameter is required, the organization's Employer Identification Number (EIN), a nine-digit number, with no dashes:

The second positional parameter is the link anchor text, and defaults to article title):
* {{ProPublicaNonprofitExplorer|EIN|NonprofitName}}
Note that these example usages show a leading asterisk "*" for a bulleted list since this template is most likely to be used in an "External links" section.
Detailed instructions
[edit]- Copy and paste one of the two options above into the article.
- Go to the ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer and search for and find the target organization (say, American National Red Cross).
- You then reach the page with a URL of the form https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/530196605
- Copy only the trailing number from the URL (here, "
530196605
"); this is the EIN, nine digits, without dashes. - Replace "EIN" in the template code with the number.
- For the first option above, you'll then have:
- * {{ProPublicaNonprofitExplorer|530196605}}
- resulting in:
- "ProPublicaNonprofitExplorer Internal Revenue Service filings". ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer.
- Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page "American National Red Cross", use the second option:
- For the second option above, replace "EIN" with the number and "NonprofitName" with "American National Red Cross", you'll then have:

- resulting in:
