Parameters

[edit]
Parameter Explanation
name The article name, without qualifiers, i.e. John Doe, not John Doe (wrestler).
image Image defaults to 220px width.
image_size Size to display image (e.g. 200px (for width), x300px (for height), or 200x300px). This parameter should not normally need to be set.
image_upright Scales the image thumbnail from its default size by the given factor. Values less than 1 scale the image down (0.9 = 90%) and values greater than 1 scale the image up (1.15 = 115%).
landscape Set to "yes" when using wide, short images. The image height (rather than width) will be limited to 200 pixels.
alt Alternative text for image. See WP:ALT for more details.
caption Image caption. Try to include date/year of the photo.
birth_name Birth name, if different from name.
birth_date Date of birth. If living, use {{Birth date and age}}, otherwise use {{Birth date}}. For living people supply only the year unless the exact date is already WIDELY published, as per WP:DOB. Treat such cases as if only the year is known, so use {{birth year and age}} or a similar option.
birth_place Place of birth.
death_date Date of death. If date of birth is known, use {{Death date and age}}, otherwise use {{Death date}}.
death_place Place of death.
death_cause Cause of death. Should be clearly defined and sourced.
alma_mater Universities/colleges from which the wrestler graduated. Leave empty if none.
spouse Name(s) of spouse(s) and years of marriage. Use {{Marriage}}.
partner Name(s) of notable unmarried partners and years of relationship.
children Number of children (e.g. 3), or list names if independently notable. Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
parents Names of parents; include only if they are independently notable or particularly relevant. These parameter may be used for biological, adoptive, foster, or step-parents. Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
relatives Names of siblings or other relatives; include only if independently notable or particularly relevant. Include the relationship in parentheses after the name (sister, uncle, etc.). Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
family Link to family article, if applicable. See list of family relations in professional wrestling.
website Official website. Note this is not to be used for profile pages on wrestling websites, social media pages or fansites. Use {{URL}}.
ring_names Known ring names. Use bold print on active names. Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
height Kayfabe height at which the wrestler is billed. Automatically converted, but {{Convert}} can also be used.
weight Kayfabe weight at which the wrestler is billed. Automatically converted, but {{Convert}} can also be used.
billed Location billed by the promoter. Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
trainer Name(s) of the individuals/schools that trained the wrestler. Use {{Plainlist}} for multiple entries.
debut The date (or year if the exact date is unavailable) when the wrestler made their professional debut, i.e. wrestled their first match. For non-wrestlers, for example announcers or managers, this should be the date/year when they made their first appearance.
retired Date or year of permanent retirement.
signature An image of the person's signature. Please use image name without the File: or Image: prefix.
signature_size Default is 150px. If necessary, a signature can be resized manually as per the |image_size= parameter.
signature_alt Alt text for the signature image; spelling out the signature exactly as it appears in the image.

Use as a child template

[edit]

The child parameter is used when embedding this infobox into another.

This infobox may be used to create a genre-specific section within {{Infobox person}} (or similar biographical infobox templates) for cases where a person may be notable in more than one field; a generic example is shown below. For guidance on usage, see Wikipedia:Infobox modules. Also see the Template:Infobox documentation which explains embedding and subboxes.

{{Infobox person
| name =
| image =
| caption =
| birth_date =
| birth_place =
| <!-- etc. -->
| module =
  {{Infobox professional wrestler | child=yes
  | parameter-1 =
  | parameter-2 =
  | parameter-3 =
  | parameter-4 =
  | <!-- etc. -->
  }}
}}

Microformat

[edit]

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

[edit]

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes

[edit]

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
  • agent
  • bday
  • birthplace
  • category
  • country-name
  • deathdate
  • deathplace
  • extended-address

  • honorific-prefix
  • honorific-suffix
  • label
  • locality
  • n
  • nickname

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.
