KROQ Top 106.7 Countdowns
... that Sinéad O'Connor is the only woman, or female group, to top the KROQ Top 106.7 Countdown?Craughwell, Kathleen (2002-01-21). "It's a Man's World at KROQ". LA Times.- ALT1:
... that the songs featured in the annual Top 106.7 Countdown had a world-wide impact because KROQ was considered the most powerful radio station in the world?Sullivan, Kate (November 2001). "KROQ An Oral History". Los Angeles Magazine: 91.

- Reviewed: Did you know nominations/Ahibaran
Converted from a redirect by Evrik (talk). Self-nominated at 06:36, 13 May 2020 (UTC).
- Redirect expansion started on 12 May and nominated well in time on 13 May. Though not a part of the DYK requirement, I would request the nominator to adjust the class to list, that is if you agree this is a list article. Some minor copyedits like the extra comma before cites 5 and 6 could be done. Earwigs gives "violation unlikely". As far as the hooks go:
- ALT0: You have written ".... only woman, or female.....". Is this on purpose? Also, maybe interchange Sinéad O'Connor and KROQ Top 106.7 Countdown so that more emphasis is given on KROQ since that is the article in question.
- ALT1: You have written ".... had a world-wide impact... " ... would "... had a world-wide audience..." be better? Please clarify the line that has been quoted, is it "KROQ is the most powerful rock station in the world" ...?
- The image is clear and aptly licensed, though I do have my doubts about the relevance of a singers image in this. But since the first hook brings out the relevance it is ok. ALT1 doesn't go with the image. QPQ to be done. DTM (talk) 13:58, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
... that Sinéad O'Connor is the only woman, or female group, to top the KROQ Top 106.7 Countdown?
- ALT0a:
... that of the artists to top the KROQ Top 106.7 Countdown, Sinéad O'Connor is the only woman, or female group to top the list? - ALT1a:
... that the songs featured in the annual Top 106.7 Countdown had a world-wide audience because KROQ was considered the most powerful radio station in the world?
- ALT0a:
- Fixed first hook. Changed class, adjusted commas. Created Alt0a and Alt1a. Yes, the citation was about "most powerful." --evrik (talk) 16:06, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- GTG. ALT0a, ALT1, ALT1a with a preference for ALT1a over ALT1. Image is more suitable with ALT0a. DTM (talk) 05:19, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this. @DiplomatTesterMan: I don't understand your problem with ALT0. ALT0a is so much more wordy. Yoninah (talk) 16:06, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
- Yoninah, as I have mentioned above, the problem was that I thought the hook+image focused more on Sinéad O'Connor than the actual DYK article KROQ Top 106.7. But if you think the hook ALT0 is alright, I agree that it is shorter and easier to read than ALT0a. I'm fine with both. It was merely a suggestion " Also, maybe interchange"..... rather than a problem (text in bold). DTM (talk) 05:37, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @DiplomatTesterMan: Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't planning on promoting the image; it's too dark at thumbnail size. Yoninah (talk) 09:50, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

- OK, I see that Sinead O'Connor is the only woman on the chart, but that is sourced to RadioHitlist. Nothing is mentioned in the LA Times article (footnote 8) about her being the only woman to top the charts. In fact, footnote 8 doesn't verify anything in that paragraph under Lack of female artist representation. Do you have another source for that? Yoninah (talk) 10:01, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Craughwell, Kathleen (2002-01-21). "It's a Man's World at KROQ". LA Times. --evrik (talk) 16:02, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Evrik: could you point me to the exact line in the source that verifies the hook fact? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:59, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- My apologies, I have spent too much time from the article. Hook Alt0 or its derivatives, as they are, cannot not be reliably cited today. The fact in the sentence is res ipsa loquitur, but I can't find the news article that addressed this online today. I can show that Sinead O'Connor's achievement here, here and here, but cannot cite the lack of other women on the chart. --evrik (talk) 21:44, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

- @Yoninah: Alt0 and Alt1a are my two preferred hooks. I reorganized the paragraph discussing gender equity and cited each fragment. I trust your judgement, and the hook you pick. I can keep looking for the news article discussing lack of women in the chart, but it may take me a day or two. --evrik (talk) 22:09, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Evrik: well, I am trying to find the ALT0 hook fact in one of the two sources, without success. Where is it? Yoninah (talk) 22:25, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

- ALT2:... that the inaugural Top 106.7 Countdown was topped by the Devo song "Whip It"? "Top 80 Songs of 1980". KROQ. radio.com.
- @Yoninah: We seem to be sidetracked. I am not tied to using Alt0 or Alt0a. Can we go ahead with Alt1a? I'm offering a new hook as well.--evrik (talk) 02:46, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, I think ALT2 is the best solution. I added a cite for Frank's Page to show that it was the inaugural countdown. Also adding freely-licensed image for old-time rock fans, with this alt:
- ALT2a: ... that the inaugural Top 106.7 Countdown was topped by the song "Whip It" by Devo (pictured)?
- ALT2/2a hook ref verified and cited inline. Rest of review per DTM. ALT2 or ALT2a good to go. Yoninah (talk) 10:18, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
