Double-A (baseball)
[edit]... that Double-A baseball is typically home to younger players who have not been in professional baseball for very long?
- ALT1:... that Double-A baseball rosters are typically more stable than other minor league baseball teams?
- ALT2:... that the Double-A classification of Minor League Baseball is made up of three leagues: Eastern League, Southern League, and Texas League?
- ALT3:... that Major League Baseball veterans sometimes play at the Double-A level to rehabilitate from injuries?

- Date and length fine. However, the System section is very much a close paraphrasing of the hook source and this would need to be rewritten so it is less similar to the source. A QPQ is also needed. If these can be sorted, i'll take another look. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 10:53, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- @The C of E: I don't need a QPQ because this is only my third nomination (I'm still learning how DYKs work!). For the system section, I used a few different sources and tried to blend them together. I guess I forgot about the first sentence because I didn't realize how close it is to the source. Upon further review, that exact phrase appears in the source! Because of this, I'm going to strike my top hook, and favor my ALT1. I've also added two more ALTs (ALT2 isn't in the "system" section if that's the problem), just in case. The entire section has now been reworked, so the paraphrasing shouldn't be a problem anymore. Let me know if there's anything else I need to do! Tavix Talk 15:58, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
- Paragraph has been cleaned up. The ot5her hooks look good and referenced. Good to go. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 09:31, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
- The paragraph under Playoffs needs at least one cite, per DYK rules. Yoninah (talk) 23:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

- Thank you. There is still close paraphrasing in several places. This line under System is directly copied from the source and needs to be rewritten in your own words: Major League players rehabilitating injuries will sometimes play at the AA level if it is more convenient for the affiliated Major League team.
- Similarly, the language here is very close and needs to be adjusted:
- Source: the jump to Double-A tends to be the most difficult for prospects
- Article: The jump to the Double-A level can be one of the hardest jumps for prospects
- Source: This is where pitchers can't get by without a decent off-speed pitch and the hitters who can't hit them are exposed.
- Article: it is the level where pitchers can't get by without having a good off-speed pitch and fastball-only hitters are exposed.
- There is also line-by-line paraphrasing, and use of the same words, here:
- Source: Double-A baseball is typically home to younger players who have not been in professional baseball for very long, traveling up from college or the Rookie league, and will often showcase top prospects.
- Article: The Double-A classification usually hosts younger players who have only been in professional baseball for a couple of years. These players can get to the Double-A level by earning a promotion from any of the Single-A or Rookie leagues. Some players jump directly to the majors from this level, as many of the top prospects are put here to play against each other to showcase their talents against one another.
- One way to get around this kind of close paraphrasing is to add more sources, which will help round out your presentation rather than having to rely on only one source. Yoninah (talk) 17:57, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
- Wow, this seems really nitpicky. I think I got it all worked out though. Thanks for the advice. Tavix (talk) 23:20, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you. The DYK rules are very exacting because the article will appear on the main page, where thousands of readers will see it. The criteria are nothing more than the usual Wikipedia criteria, but as you know, many Wikipedia articles are not yet up to snuff. The close paraphrasing issue has been resolved; I also made a few more tweaks on that front. Now the only thing left is some kind of sourcing for the information in the chart. Where did you get those figures? Even if you can cite only one column, such as the location or the capacity, it will be sufficient. Yoninah (talk) 19:18, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- The tables were taken directly from the articles of the three leagues: Eastern League (1938–2020), Southern League (baseball) and Texas League, respectively. Tavix Talk 19:42, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

- Wow, you did enough work for 3 articles! I didn't realize that each line would need a different cite. Everything looks great now. All ALT hook refs are verified and cited inline. I think ALT3 is the most interesting of the three, but I'll let the closing administrator decide. ALTs 1, 2, 3 are good to go. Yoninah (talk) 19:57, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
