  • Article was promoted to GA status on time, it is adequately sourced, and it is free from close paraphrasing. A full QPQ has been done. Among the hooks, the first one is the better option, and it is cited inline and verified in the Newspapers.com clipping. However, I think that mentioning his age at the time (22) rather than just saying he was "one of the youngest players" might actually make the hook more interesting. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:31, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
That actually adds further complexity: might be better to just drop "youngest players". Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 22:57, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: What about then: ALT3 ... that 22-year-old Bob Hainlen, in addition to playing for the Wilmington Clippers professional football team, also served as their assistant coach? Also, if that works, what do you think about the possibility of a date request for December 18, his 98th birthday? BeanieFan11 (talk) 03:17, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
It's just outside the six-week outside limit for special occasion requests, so you'll need to ask for an exemption over at WT:DYK. I suspect though given the closeness that it will be approved. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:09, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: I posted a date request. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:55, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
As for the hooks, ALT2 could still probably be reworded to make the connection with him playing and assistant coaching at 22 somewhat more direct (i.e. not using "22-year-old" as an adjective). I'm ready to approve the nom once that's resolved regardless of the status of the IAR exemption request. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:39, 6 December 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: Maybe one of the two below?
ALT3 ... that at age 22, Bob Hainlen both played and was assistant coach for the Wilmington Clippers professional football team?
ALT4 ... that Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for the Wilmington Clippers professional football team at age 22?
Or could remove Clippers entirely, e.g. ALT5 ... that Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for a professional football team at age 22? / ALT6 ... that at age 22, Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for a professional football team? BeanieFan11 (talk) 04:16, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
We're almost there. The issue is that you'll need to specify American football since "football" to most of the world is soccer (or is other sports in some countries). Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 04:30, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
Should "football" be linked to American football or should I instead put "American football" in the hook? BeanieFan11 (talk) 04:38, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
Not a fan of adding more blue links than necessary, so should be the full name without being linked. WP:SEAOFBLUE sort of applies here. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 05:31, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: So: ALT7 ... that at age 22, Bob Hainlen both played and was assistant coach for the Wilmington Clippers professional American football team? / ALT8 ... that Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for the Wilmington Clippers professional American football team at age 22? / ALT9 ... that Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for a professional American football team at age 22? / ALT10 ... that at age 22, Bob Hainlen was both a player and assistant coach for a professional American football team? BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:53, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
That works. I will leave to the promoter whether or not the mention of the Wilmington Clippers is necessary or not. As for the special occasion request, that will depend on the discussion, but it seems to have run its course in favor of approval so I guess I can also support it.
