Prospects
[edit]How long before they go the same was as every other 'biggest independent' in the UK? I really hope they make it, but i'm pessimistic. Especially as they don't have Branson's Virgin Group on board to bail them out now.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.247.229 (talk • contribs) 14:10, 8 November 2007
- At the moment imho the transition seems to be going OK, from the number of people still in the stores (Even with the new name up on the front) and the number of people talking about Zavvi in the street. There is still a 'Virgin' presence within the stores, as the stores are still acting as outlets for Virgin Mobile and Media servies, so I suppose Virgin would want Zavvi to be a success. Only time will tell. TubularWorld 14:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Are they still going through the transitional phase or is all of the rebranding (store signage, etc.) essentially complete? 217.155.20.163 16:19, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- By the looks of it they are still 're-branding' some stores have had the signage done, some have not; inside all of the stores there still seems to be a lot of VirginMegastores stuff though. TubularWorld 13:42, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

No more singles?
[edit]The lower floor of the Zavvi store in Newcastle has been re-arranged over the last few weeks or so, and I've noticed that the store no longer sells CD singles or vinyl singles - just albums. Does this apply to all Zavvi stores, or are there some branches (larger ones presumably, maybe the London Oxford Street branch?) that still sell singles?
(Alternatively, is the singles section now so small that I just failed to spot it?) 217.155.20.163 (talk) 17:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- If this article published in March is to be belived, zavvi will not be selling singles anymore at all. http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/3067167 TubularWorld (talk) 17:24, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Lower/uppercase
[edit]zavvi's about us page shows that the company spells it with a lowercase, even though its usage as a name indicates an uppercase z. --TubularWorld (talk) 15:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Check out WP:MOS and Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks). Basically, regardless of how the company want to format the word, because it is being used in an encyclopedia article, proper English takes precedence and thus, as a name, it is capitalised. Nouse4aname (talk) 15:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, I see, thanks for changing it on the article. TubularWorld (talk) 21:26, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
- Regardless of how the MOS says to refer to them, it still seems odd to say "often typeset as zavvi" - we don't say "Ipod (often typeset as iPod)". Mdwh (talk) 02:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- If it's formal name is zavvi then we can use the {{Lowercase}} template at the top of the article so that the page name displays with a lower case "z". – ukexpat (talk) 03:20, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Staff Uniform
[edit]- Zavvi employees can be identified by their Zavvi lanyards that reads "Staff. here to help"; It carries the Zavvi logo similarly to the necklace.
What necklace? Rojomoke (talk) 14:52, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Ulster Banner
[edit]If anyone is wondering why the flag for Northern Ireland is being removed:
The Ulster Banner is the former banner of the Government of Northern Ireland 1953-1972. This flag has had no official status since 1972 and is widely regarded as the emblem of one community only. It should not be used to represent present day Northern Ireland geographically or as a political entity. (Text from the Ulster Banner image)
--TubularWorld (talk) 19:46, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- My mistake, I genuinly am very sorry. Formula1fanatic (talk) 11:43, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- So why not use the Union Flag - the only official flag of Northern Ireland? 80.176.88.21 (talk) 18:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Because it A- represents only the Protestants, and B. Does not represent Northern Ireland, but the entire UK, whereas the flag needs to represent the North only, as the saltire represents Scotland, St George cross represents England etc etc ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.195.242.189 (talk) 18:38, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
WiiFit
[edit]If i'm right thousands of people were involved in a scam involving a fake Zavvi webiste selling WiiFit. Should this be mentioned or not? For a more knowledgeable and relaxed Wikipedia- Nemesis646 (talk) 06:23, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Administration
[edit]Due to the collapse of Woolworths/EUK, Zavvi are in trouble owing £100m to EUK. They have called in Ernst & Young for advice and are opening new bank accounts to ringfence customer's money from gift cards and outstaning orders. And in a desperate attempt to increase cashflow are selling the XBox360 under RRP. Administration imminent?
I have backed up the notice and uploaded it as pdf (http://thatginger.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/zavvi-notice-to-customers.pdf), should I replace the now broken link to the zavvi website as that no longer active? --Eddie (talk/contribs) 20:49, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
- You could switch it, but you never know the website might come back. It has been on and off all day, each time that I have tried to access it.--TubularWorld (talk) 20:53, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

^^^ And there you go... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.125.113 (talk) 11:36, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
-- Zavvi didn't owe EUK as much and thats not the primary reason for administration. Zavvi has entered into administration because EUK, their main supplier, collapsed. As a result, they were having to buy stock directly from suppliers, essentially with cash, and they couldn't keep doing this. With EUK, stock would be purchased and a payment made after 30-60 days so it's a struggle for a retailer to pay up front and now their rent is due, they didn't have the cash to pay it which resulted in the administration.

Much of this article still records events planned for the future - such as 'eventually all stores will have a books department' and 'online download service. There is currently no date for this service'. which appear rather redundant given the administration. 217.43.73.170 (talk) 11:23, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Zavvi Era - buyout price
[edit]"A management buy-out offer, led by managing director Simon Douglas and finance director Steve Peckham, for an undisclosed sum, though reportedly £1"
is this vandalism, showing a ridiculously low sum to make fun of how worthless they are, or does it mean £1 per share ? Machete97 (talk) 19:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- No, it is referenced from a BBC article. Many companies (usually with debt) are sold for sums like this. For example Rover Company was sold for £10.--TubularWorld (talk) 19:13, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Precisely. In exchange for £1, you are agreeing to assume a tremendous outstanding debt. Varlaam (talk) 06:04, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Newcastle Store Closure
[edit]The picture of the Newcastle Zavvi store on Northumberland Street says it closed on the 29th of Jan. According to the BBC it is due to close on the 31st Jan. Can anyone confirm this? Gitfinger (talk) 14:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I believe where it says 31 that's how many people will be losing jobs, and not the date of closure. A few of them have numbers such as 17, which would imply closure on 17th February or 17th January, both of which are clearly wrong. I can't say for certain whether it is open today (29th), but from the wording it was closed this morning or today is the last day of trading. 147.188.28.99 (talk) 14:43, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Apologies -- you are quite correct and I had misread the page. Gitfinger (talk) 15:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- It was closed when I was in town at 10am today (29th). --TubularWorld (talk) 23:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Virgin Megastore resurrected
[edit]I went to zavvi Oxford Street only to find out it was closed. A notice in front of the store said that it will re-open soon as Virgin Megastore. Should this be mentioned on the lead? I found some source to back it up: [1]. - w.tanoto-soegiri (talk) 23:48, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Re-Write???
[edit]Does anyone else think that there is way too much space given to this article, for a company that lasted a couple of years??? A lot of waffle and non-important stuff, the whole thing could be shortened to a couple of paragraphs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.137.178 (talk) 14:21, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Rock and pop
[edit]According to the "Product range" section, the stores did not sell any pop or rock music. Maybe that's the real reason they closed. Varlaam (talk) 06:00, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
