Is Zak short for Isaac and Zachariah too ? PeterGrecian 11:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the opening line of this article as zac etc. is not always a shortened version of zachary, granted it is common, but there are some people who are called just zac/zak/zack —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.33.116.73 (talkcontribs) 20:34, 30 July 2007

Zack (personal name)Zack (given name) – "(given name)" is the usual disambiguator for this type of page. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:24, 25 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: no consensus. The discussion became about splitting, which isn't handled with RM. (closed by non-admin page mover) Frost 05:25, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Zack (given name)Zach (given name) – The article should be moved to a page called Zach (given name) as that is by far the most common spelling, evidenced by the article itself, in which "Zach" appears at an almost 2:1 ratio with the second most common spelling "Zack." • Split. "Zach" and "Zack" are distinct. 162 etc. (talk) 22:48, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The RM seems reasonable per Ngram[1] and Trends[2] but I'm curious if there are guidelines or norms that should inform the decision. My intuition is that "Zach" and "Zack" are usually considered variants of the same name/hypocorism and that splitting would be unhelpful and would raise the question of whether we need separate lists or articles for Zak, Zakk, and Zac.--MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 00:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Shawn/Sean, or Roger/Rodger, or many more such examples currently on Wikipedia. 162 etc. (talk) 17:25, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, thanks. I was interested in other names with common hypocorisms. I see we have articles for Jonathan_(name) and John_(given_name) plus Johnathan, Johnny, Jonny, and Jon; Michael_(given_name) and Micheal which is described as a distinct name but also a spelling variant… [that] is sometimes considered erroneous plus Mikey, Mike (given name), and Mikee. I don't intend to look up the tens of thousands of possible examples. I guess I'm at weak split Zach and Zack. If Mikee gets its own list then I guess Zac, Zak, and Zakk can, too… I would prefer one list @ "Zach" but I don't have a strong argument for it. --MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 18:17, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split, there's enough here to make two suitably long full length lists, per the analysis above. Bobby Cohn (talk) 21:58, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Split the article into Zack, Zach, Zac, Zak, and Zakk. The names are distinct and there is enough content to make several articles. Theparties (talk) 19:14, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
