Michaels Award for Young Concert Artists

[edit]

@BAMichaels: Do you have a published source that we can cite for the content you added? While I have found a source for the plane crash deaths you mentioned (here), the only mentions I see for a "Michaels Award for Young Concert Artists" are someone winning around 1975, which runs contrary to the claim that it was renamed in 1961. -- Fyrael (talk) 20:05, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The publication I have (literally own): The Highland Park News (Pioneer Press), published July 13, 1966, Section 2, pages 4- 6, 11. The couple killed in the mid-air collision were my grandparents. BAMichaels (talk) 12:55, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This is a challenging one to find information on, but I think I've got bits and pieces. Looks like the Michaels Award was given out by the Bud and Belle Michaels Memorial Fund from somewhere around 1950 to 1971, then it was given over to the Young Concert Artists organization. Some relevant newspaper articles: New York Times, Music Educators Journal. I've also seen some things given out by Ravinia, but that could just be a coincidental name: Daily Illini, Ravinia records. -- Fyrael (talk) 17:39, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you wanted to share the text of that article you have, I'd appreciate that. I think I found a record of it, but it doesn't show the actual text. Is it titled "Whatever became of….look at winners & finalists for the Michaels Award"? -- Fyrael (talk) 17:48, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
