A fact from White-tailed jay appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 4 April 2024 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the white-tailed jay(example pictured) found in Ecuador and Peru was once thought to have been brought to Mexico by pre-Columbian trade?
Personal preference, but I think "genus Cyanocorax" sounds better than "Cyanocorax genus".
Done
Why no link for de Sparre in the lead?
Added
We use IOC as WP's bird taxonomy, so the IOC list would be a better ref for it being monotypic and its placement in Cyanocorax.
Changed
No etymology for mystacalis?
The closest I can find is this, where it says it's Latin for moustache. It's referencing a different species, what are your thoughts on using this source for that?
"Some measurements are known from only one individual, who had a wing length" "One individual measured has a wing length"
Changed
"than its relatives in the Cyanocrax genus" to "than other species in its genus"
Changed
"preferring open areas" to "as it prefers open areas"
Changed
"down through El Oro and Loja" I don't think "down through" is appropriate here, since the range is disjunct.
Reworded
"It lives at elevations as high as down to sea level" Reads weirdly.
Reworded, not sure I like it any better though, so happy to hear any suggestions!
"steal eggs" Just say feeds on eggs instead.
Changed
"alone, apart from other white-tailed jays" Does this mean that they're far from other white-tailed jays, or that they are alone except for other white-tailed jays?
Away from other white-tailed jays - I've changed the wording.
Seems pretty comprehensive, did find this report of probable predation by a hawk that could be added.
Added, I put it in Diet and feeding, but if you think it's better elsewhere I'm happy to move it.
Scientific names in ref titles should be italicized.
Fixed
Book titles should be in title case.
Fixed
Spot-checked with BOW and some of the other references, all of them are reliable and verify claims made.
I'm passing for now, but note that the IOC World Bird List cites v14.1 and links to a 2020 archive link; make sure to update the archive link to a recent one that actually shows v14.1 later. AryKun (talk) 03:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Overall: Article recently promoted to GA. Passes earwig, no close paraphrasing was found, and the hook is interesting, cited inline, and verified. Image appropriately licensed. User has less than 20 DYK nominations, and not required 2x QPQ per nomination due to emergency backlog mode. GTG. Pseud 14 (talk) 18:26, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
